Scotland - Fort William and the Highlands 2010
September 2010... Taking a small mini DV Camera on my travels I shot footage of the Scottish Highlands. I place them here for everyone to see how beautiful and special a place it is and hope to show much more of it one day.
For reference the waterfall is called: Chia-Aig falls in Achnacarry somewhere roughly between Spean Bridge and Roy bridge. Not easy to find but locals should know. Its difficulty allows it to retain some element of remoteness and safe from tourist overload!
Best Preserved Barracks Highlands Of Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of the best preserved Barracks on ancestry visit to the Scottish Highlands. Ruthven Barracks is located near Ruthven in Badenoch and and Strathspey. The barracks at Ruthven were completed in 1721. The barracks accommodated 120 troops and 28 horses for dragoons. In August 1745 a unit of 12 British soldiers, commanded by a Sergeant Terrence Molloy of the 6th Regiment of Foot, defended the barracks against 200 Jacobites and lost just one man. The following year Molloy surrendered to a larger force of Jacobites, commanded by John Gordon of Glenbucket. On the day after the Battle of Culloden in 1746, some 3,000 Jacobites retreated to Fort Ruthven but they were sent home by Prince Charles Edward Stuart as their situation was hopeless. The departing Jacobites destroyed the barracks on 17 April 1746.. The remnants remain.

Glen Roy Scottish Highlands Of Scotland
Tour Scotland video of photographs of Glen Roy on a visit to the Scottish Highlands. This Scottish glen is located in the Lochaber area of the Highlands and is a National Nature Reserve and is noted for the geological puzzle of the three roads. The Parallel Roads of Glen Roy are lake terraces that formed along the shorelines of an ancient ice-dammed lake. In the 19th century, the Parallel Roads attracted the attention of many early geologists, including the Reverend William Buckland, James Geikie, Charles Darwin, Charles Babbage, Charles Lyell and Joseph Prestwich. The glen runs north from Glen Spean which takes the main A86 trunk road and the railway of the West Highland Line, both running about a further 14 miles southwest via Spean Bridge to Fort William. The village of Roybridge and Roy Bridge railway station are sited where the River Roy joins the River Spean, and from there a narrow single track road runs north up the glen for almost 10 miles to Brae Roy Lodge.

This family-run hotel in the West Highlands has good food and comfortable, basic rooms. It is close to Spean Bridge Train Station and 9 miles north of Fort William.
The hotel is in village surroundings on the main A82 to Inverness and Skye. It is close to the Commando Monument and the Nevis Range Cable Car.
Spean Bridge Hotel hosts the Commando Bar, a seasonal restaurant and a function room. The hotel is also home to an exhibition dedicated to WWII commandos.
Accommodations are spread across the annex, chalets and the main hotel, which has a part dating from the 18th century. Some rooms have satellite TV, and some rooms have both a bathtub and a shower.
Euston to Inverness Caledonian Sleeper (Full Journey)

On-board the 21:15 first scotrail Caledonian Sleeper all the way from Euston to Inverness on Fri 22nd/Sat 23rd October 2010. In some places there really isn't much to see because its wet and dark! But sounds good anyway! :)
This video includes all interesting and vital parts of the journey! The highland mainline unfortunatly in this video is very brief because I was nearly over the 15 minutes allowed on YouTube. So therefore I have up-loaded another video of all the videos I took from Edinburgh onwards!

Also I flew back from Inverness to Gatwick on-board Easyjet Airbus A319 so look out for videos taken on-board that flight as well!

The journey from Fort William to Mallaig
Here`s a video I`ve recently edited with a combination of footage filmed by me and my farther, revealing sections of the spectacular 42 mile journey on “The Jacobite” steam train, from Fort William to Mallaig, in the West Highlands of Scotland.
After beginning at Fort William we gradually make our way through the urban areas before making our way into the Highlands and see some glorious mountainous sceneries, such as the view crossing the 21 arched Glenfinnan Viaduct (the railway bridge which appears in 3 of the Harry Potter films). Then after a brief stop at Glenfinnan Station (where the other “Jacobite” train comes passing us on its return journey to Fort William) we continue our journey by viewing more glorious mountainous views and the view of a big lake which contains a couple of small islands (one of which is Dumbledore`s final resting place in the last Harry Potter films), before we finally arrive at Mallaig. After completing the journey the video ends with 2 additional shots of “The Jacobite” filmed from the side of the railway (one of it departing from Mallaig station and one of it crossing over the canal at Banavie on its return journey).
NOTE: You`ll notice some dramatic changes in the condition of the weather as certain footages fade into the next (and different steam engines pulling the train). This is because the video conations a combination of footages shot from 3 different visits to the railway. Some were shot this year (these are the shots with bright sunshine), some shot from last year (these are the shots with dull grey skies and raindrops), and the one of The Jacobite leaving Mallaig near the end was shot back in 2007.
You`ll even notice some different quality in some footages (some being better quality than others), this is because they were shot by 3 different cameras during the visits. I also apologise for some loud whistling sounds, camera shaking and trees blocking some of the views.
Anyway I hope you`ll all enjoy the video. The Scottish West Highlands is definitely somewhere worth visiting.
