Visiting Scotland - Thinking about Holidays in Scotland or Planning a Trip?
Visiting Scotland - Thinking about Holidays in Scotland or Planning a Trip? Here’s one area that seems to be Scotland’s little secret…
We wanted to start off by exposing an area of Scotland that seems to have been kept hidden from so many people for so long…it’s like Scotland’s own little secret.
You will probably be familiar with the rugged beauty of the West Coast of Scotland, the Highlands and Islands or popular tourist destinations like Perthshire but what about Dornoch in Sutherland?
Dornoch is in the Highlands of Scotland just North of Inverness. It’s ideal for a short break or weekend breaks in Scotland. Flights to Inverness are easy enough and you can strike out north from there. Maybe you are considering doing the North Coast 500 route….an incredibly scenic road trip around the top of Scotland.[
If you’re a golfer…then you absolutely must play Royal Dornoch Golf course. It is one of the finest links courses in the world and Scotland’s best. Sound outlandish, then check it out. Playing golf in Scotland is always a joy and challenge…there’s certainly plenty of courses to choose from…just watch those bunkers, the gorse and if on the coast, the sea breeze!
Check out Royal Dornoch Golf course via this link:
In Dornoch, there’s plenty of things to do and places to visit, just like other areas of Scotland. It makes an ideal base to strike out from.
To travel to Scotland is to experience hospitality on a different level, whether you’re looking for fine hotels, luxury lodges, self-catering, bed and breakfasts, caravan parks to campsites, you’ll find it all in Scotland. Caravan holidays in Scotland can be a joy as so many are right next to some incredible beaches and the campsites in Scotland in spectacular locations.
Here are some links you may find useful:
In Dornoch you are right next to some of the most amazing beaches with Dornoch beach and Embo beach.
However you choose to spend your Scottish holiday, you’ll find plenty to do. In Dornoch there’s some great sightseeing, as well as shopping and a great choice of restaurants, bistros, pubs and takeaways.
But really you want to get outdoors and enjoy the beaches, walking, golf, fishing, shooting, cycling and many more outdoor activities. If you want something a little less energetic, then a visit to the stunning Dunrobin Castle and its beautiful gardens is a must. To get in to Skibo Castle is a little more difficult but if you bend the right ears, you might be able to get a round of golf in!
Also, make sure you don’t miss a tour of the local whisky distilleries and have a dram or check out some of the local museums. You might even still be able to win a bottle of very exclusive whisky only available direct from the distillery….
Visiting Scotland is always a joy for so many people but those that discover Dornoch seem to keep on coming back….I wonder why?
Now, what to see in Scotland next?

PERTH, SCOTLAND | A Day Trip from Edinburgh!
While Australia’s Perth is more commonly thought of when someone says they’re visiting Perth, Scotland’s Perth is actually what Australia’s Perth is named after. Perth sits on the banks of the River Tay, just over 1 hour north of Edinburgh. Often called the Gateway to the Highlands, it is Scotland’s 7th city.
