TOP 10 MUST VISIT PLACES IN ITALY FOR NATURE LOVERS
Whenever somebody talks about Italy, it’s always about Rome, Milan, Cinque Terre, Florence… The list can go on and on and it’s mostly cities included. However, Italy is a country that can fascinate its tourists with its natural landscape, just as much as with its vibrant city life.
A huge number of lakes, mountains, woodlands and beaches is something you can see all throughout Italy. But, no matter in which region you are, you will find a natural wonder that will charm you completely! We’ve picked our ten favorite – which one you would put on your bucket list?
1. Val di Mello
Val di Mello is the largest natural reserve located in Northern Italy’s region of Lombardy, near the border with Switzerland. The whole place is consisting of three groups of valleys – Val di Mello, Val Masino and Valle dei Bagni. The whole place is known for its amazing mountain sports conditions, especially climbing and hiking. Val di Mello got really famous within the past decade, when the Melloblocco bouldering festival started to take place here every May.
2. Val d’Orcia
Val d’Orcia, or also known as Valdorcia, is a place in the well – known Italian region of Tuscany. Green hills surround the picturesque towns and villages in the region, which is known for the high – quality wine production. From 2004, Val d’Orcia is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its breathtaking agricultural landscape and place in Italian’s art history.
3. Marmore Falls
The Marmore’s falls, or as they’re called Cascata delle Marmore in Italian, are a man – made waterfalls near Terni, the capital of the region of Umbria. The waterfalls are created 2.000 years ago by the ancient Romans and their source is the river Velino. Besides enjoying the view of the Marmore waterfalls, you can explore the area and enjoy the gorgeous nature surrounding you!
4. Monti Sibillini
Monti Sibillini is a national park located in the regions of Umbria and Marche. It was established in 1993 and ever since it represents one of the most beautiful parks in whole Italy. Monti Sibillini represent a mountain chain with wonderful green valleys and plenty of flowers during spring and summer.
5. Lago di Scanno
Lago di Scanno, or lake Scanno in English, is a wonderful lake located in the province of L’Aquila in the region of Abruzzo, Southern Italy. It is also the largest lake in the region with amazing emerald – colored crystal water. Right above the lake is the small town of Scanno, which is a charming place with cobble streets and medieval architecture.
6. Gran Paradiso National Park
This national park got its name after the same called mountain – Gran Paradiso, located in the Graian Alps, between the regions of Piedmont and Aosta Valley. It is also the oldest national park in Italy and it used to be a hunting ground for the King Vittorio Emmanuel II. There are mesmerizing woodlands and alpine grassland that will take your breath away, so make sure to include the Gran Paradiso national park on your bucket list.
7. Lake Maggiore
Here’s another lake on the list and this time it is one of the three big prealpine lakes – Lago di Maggiore. It is the second biggest Italian lake and it is located between the regions of Lombardy and Piedmont, as well the Swiss canton of Ticino. The lake, as well as the towns along its coastline are known for their flower gardens, where you can find rare and exotic plants. The climate is mild all year round, which makes this place so dreamy.
8. Val di Funes
The Dolomites are a complete must visit for every tourist, no matter what! We’re talking about a mountain range located in northeastern Italy that since 2009 it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can find small towns and villages in the mountains that will charm you absolutely with their alpine grasslands all around and the tall Dolomites in the background.
9. Giardini di Ninfa
Giardini di Ninfa or Gardens of Ninfa in English, are a lanscape garden in central Italy that will make you feel as if you stepped into a fairy tale – you will know right away why the New York Times declared these gardens as one of the most romantic in the world. They are built on the ruins of the medieval town of Ninfa and are declared as natural monument by the region of Lazio.
10. Costa degli Dei
The southern Tyrrhenian coast has the name Costa degli Dei or Coast of the Gods. The reason why this coastline has such name is simple – there are bays, capes, white sand beaches and crystal clear blue water of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is really impressive, just take a look at the sunset! The Coast of the Gods is located in the province of Calabria in Southwestern Italy.

You’ve surely heard of the wonders of Tuscany… but, like so many other well-touted destinations, Tuscany has had its day; it’s played out. Its market is now overly-developed and pricey—hardly accessible to the regular tourist or expat, these days.
Not to fear.
Abruzzo has everything Tuscany offers and much more—at a fraction of the cost. A couple could live here very comfortably on US$1,400 or less (much less of you own a home)… and the region even offers the opportunity for owning a nice plot of land—enough to allow would-be farmers to become self-sufficient.
Known as one of the greenest areas in all of Europe, Abruzzo stretches from the Apennines to the Adriatic and is home to over 3,816.25 square km (about 1,474 square miles) of protected national parkland. The mountains here are the country’s most important and most visited after the Dolomites. Its fertile land grows crops practically year round—you’ll find it hard to drive through the countryside without seeing several hundred acres of vineyards, olive groves, and orchards of cherry and peach trees… not to mention everything growing underneath the soil that the non-farm-educated can only guess at.
Its outdoor nature makes it a delight for the active. Aside from mountains (with over a dozen ski resorts) and beaches (129 km of them), it offers dense forests to hike and picnic in, medieval towns to explore, and deep valleys patchworked alternately with crops, orchards, groves, and vineyards… plus two golf courses.
And, of course, this is still Italy, rural though this particular region may be. You won’t have any trouble finding “high culture”—museums, archeological sites, galleries, fashion shows, and haute cuisine. And if what Abruzzo has to offer isn’t enough, Rome is less than two hours’ drive from some parts of the region, Milan, Venice, and Florence are all about four and a half.
The climate here is temperate year-round. It gets chilly in winter—you’ll want boots and a hat along with your winter coat, but snow and freezing conditions aren’t typical here unless you’re up in the mountains. In the summer, it gets hot enough to enjoy the local beaches, but, thanks to its coastal location, breezes keep it from getting too stuffy. Averages have the hottest temperatures at about 75°F in July and about 45°F in January.

Places to see in ( Pescara - Italy )
Pescara is an Italian city on the Adriatic Sea. It’s known for its beaches and as the birthplace of the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. His childhood home, the Casa Natale di Gabriele D’Annunzio, houses a museum about his life and works. The Museum of the People of Abruzzo has exhibitions on regional industries like ceramics and olive oil. Pieces by Miró and Picasso are on view at the Vittoria Colonna Museum of Modern Art.
Abruzzo's largest city is a heavily developed seaside resort with one of the biggest marinas on the Adriatic. The city was heavily bombed during WWII, reducing much of the centre to rubble. It's a lively place with an animated seafront, especially in summer, but unless you're coming for the 16km of sandy beaches, there's no great reason to hang around. One attraction not to miss is the Museo delle Genti d'Abruzzo, which has plenty that will appeal to kids too.
Pescara is the capital city of the Province of Pescara, in Abruzzo region of Italy. It is the most populous city of the region, as well as being an active industrial center (metal and mechanics, conciaria, refining of sulfur, petrochemical), agricultural market and port fishing boat. Located on the sea, it is a popular seaside resort.
Pescara, although geographically on the east coast of central Italy, is considered by many as a part of the South. It is a popular seaside resort and has a long promenade with beaches along the Adriatic Sea.The central area, including the boulevard between the coast and Pescara Centrale station, is pedestrianised.
Pescara has the distinction of being a non stop party beach city. In summer days the core of the city is the coast. You can easily find clubs and discos just walking along the coast crowded with people. In winter days all nightlife moves from the coast to Corso Manthonè, the course of the old Pescara and now become the center of the nightlife of the city.
With the exception of Corso Manthonè there are also discos in the hinterland. La Fabbrica (The Factory), one of the most fashonable place in Pescara, is situated next to the university (southeast of the stadium). In the same street there is also Cantina Accademia a dance & dinner club. Megà, placed in the characteristic building Palazzo Quadrifoglio, is situated on the north bank of the river Pescara. Opposite to Megà, on south bank of the river, you can find Wake Up! another famous disco.
Small charming characteristic towns, open markets and local festivals in the nearby area are ideal for day trips to explore. And in the evenings, the beach cafes and the old town of Pescara Porto transform themselves into vibrant night spots. The mountain range also known as La Bella Dormentata (The Sleeping Beauty) is 40 mins away and its extensive park system includes natural beauty akin to national parks in the western United States. Within Abruzzo's parks lie some of Italy's most beautiful ancient hill towns rivaling those of Tuscany and Umbria.
Enjoy the wonderful beaches. The entire shoreline il dotted with stabilimenti balneari and ombrelloni, each with his own name and color scheme. You can dine, enjoy a pizza or caffe' in all of them. Red flags means no swimming...white flags you can enjoy the wonderful Adriatic sea. Free beaches are limited but quite easy to find. Along the coast from Pescara Centre and the stadium you can find about 6 free beaches. Some of them are only 500 meters distant from each other. In Montesilvano (north of Pescara) and Francavilla (south) you can still find free beaches. Mondays are market days in the area of the stadium. There is a classic open air market where everything can be had just walk through and enjoy
