The Frasassi Caves - Italy
If you want to see more Travel Pills subscribe here:
The Frasassi Caves (Italian: Grotte di Frasassi) are a remarkable karst cave system in the municipality of Genga, Italy, in the province of Ancona, Marche. They are among the most famous show caves in Italy.
The caves, discovered by a group of Ancona speleologists in 1971, are situated 7 kilometres (4 miles) south of Genga, near the civil parish of San Vittore and the Genga-San Vittore railway station (Rome-Ancona line).
Rich in water, the cave system is particularly well endowed with stalactites and stalagmites.
Near the entrance to the caves are two sanctuary-chapels: one is the 1029 Santuario di Santa Maria infra Saxa (Sanctuary of Holy Mary under the Rock) and the second is an 1828 Neoclassical architecture formal temple, known as Tempietto del Valadier.
Chambers
The Frasassi cave system includes a number of named chambers, including the following:
-Grotta delle Nottole, or Cave of the Bats, named for the large colony of bats that lives within.
-Grotta Grande del Vento, or Great Cave of the Wind, discovered in 1971, with approximately 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) of passageways.
-Sala delle Candeline, or Room of the Candles, named for its plentiful stalagmites that resemble candles.
-Sala dell'Infinito, or Room of the Infinite, a tall chamber with massive speleothem columns supporting the roof.
For sale - Farmhouse In The Land of Truffles, Marche - Acqualagna
Property Description
If you are looking for a hearth where to return every evening and always find your family and happiness, this house in Acqualagna is the best you could wish for.
Placed in the middle of the countryside, with its 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and spacious garden where you can build a pool, there’s nowhere else you’d like to be.
The House
The house was restored in 2005 according to the latest anti-seismic criteria. The total area is about 300 sq.m. developing on 2 floors:
Ground Floor:
You enter directly into the spacious and bright living room with fireplace. This area is separate from the dining room, which is placed on a higher level and connected via a big arch, which makes the whole space look like a wide open-space.
Same for the kitchen, that is accessible from the dining room. The kitchen is modern, fully equipped and it features a big island with cooktop and breakfast space with stools. On the ground floor, there is also a guest bathroom.
Beautiful is the contrast created between the modern furniture, flooring in gres and the ceilings with beams and tiles that give a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, just as it was years ago.
First Floor:
On the first floor there are 3 spacious bedrooms, 2 with en-suite bathrooms. It’s simply perfect for a family of 4 or 5 and also for small families, that like having guests often. On this floor, the owners have opted for a warm wood flooring, so you can walk barefooted!
The quality of the restoration is undisputable: together with a nice style, the owners have restored putting great attention on quality of life. They have invested in insulation, aerated foundations, double glazed windows and mosquito nets, water purifier, video surveillance and central vacuum system. There is an underfloor heating on both floors, to guarantee maximum comfort and energy saving.
Water is supplied via 2 wells and the heating system works with a GPL tank.
The Annex
The property enjoys an outbuilding of about 42 sq.m. used as a garage, big enough for 2 cars.
The Garden
The mature garden surrounding the property measures about 7.500 sq.m. with fruit trees and oaks.
Building a pool is possible.
The garden is fully fenced and it is accessible via a gated entry.
The Location
The location of the house is extremely private: you can be sure that, once you close the gate, nobody will disturbe you or peep into your property. Reaching Acqualagna, all its services and lovely typical restaurants serving truffles is a matter of just 15 minutes.
Acqualagna lies near the entrance to the Furlo Gorge, along the ancient Via Flaminia, that’s why it’s so famous for its beautiful, unspoilt landscapes.
The town is included in Furlo Gorge Nature Reserve; it is one of Italy’s most important centres for the truffle trade and one of the best places to head for tartufo bianco (white truffle) during the truffle season. The town claims to be the only place in Italy where you’ll find one type or another of fresh truffle throughout the year, and handles around two-thirds of the entire Italian wholesale truffle business – some 50-60 metric tons per year of all varieties of truffle. It hosts the Fiera nazionale del tartufo (National Truffle Fair) during the last weekend of October and first two weekends of November.
The town has Roman origins, then remodeled over the centuries. Roman and medieval remains can be admired everywhere in town and surroundings.

Why Buy It
The house is ready to move into, no works to be done apart from what you may wish to change to make it match your own taste. The quality of the restoration is very high, so you can have maximum comfort, although living in the countryside. This is good both for you and your kids/grandchildren.
But it’s not all about the quality of the building, as it is also about the quality of your life, which can change deeply and become more compliant with nature although a stone’s throw from the civilization, as we are made to join other people and share experiences, when we feel like.
