In Nigeria, a state (Hausa: jiha, Igbo: ȯra, Yoruba: ìpínlẹ̀) is a federated political entity that shares sovereignty with the federal government. There are 36 states bound together by a federal agreement. The Federal Capital Territory is not a state and under the direct control of the federal government. The states are further divided into a total of 774 Local Government Areas.[1] Under the Nigerian Constitution, states have the power to ratify constitutional amendments.

Legislature[edit]

At the State level, the legislature is unicameral, with the number of its members equal to three times the number of legislatures it has in the Federal House of Representatives. It has the power to legislate on matters on the concurrent list.

Executive[edit]

At the State level, the Head of the executive is called the Governor, who has the power to appoint people to the State Executive Council, subject to the advice and consent of the State House of Assembly (Legislature). The Head of a ministry at the State level is called a commissioner, who is assisted by a permanent secretary, who is also a senior civil servant of the State.

Judiciary[edit]

The Judiciary is one of the co-equal arms of the State government concerned with the interpretation of the laws of the State government. The Judiciary is headed by the Chief Justice of the State appointed by the governor subject to the approval of the State House of Assembly

Travel obudu cattle ranch - Destination Nigeria

Obudu Cattle Ranch(now known as the Obudu Mountain Resort) is a ranch on the Obudu Plateau.It was developed in 1951 by Mr. McCaughley, a Scot who first explored the mountain ranges in 1949.He camped on the mountaintop of the Oshie Ridge on the Sankwala Mountains for a month before returning with Mr. Hugh Jones a fellow rancher who, in 1951, together with Dr Crawfeild developed the Obudu Cattle Ranch. Although the ranch has been through troubles since, it has very recently been rehabilitated to its former glory.


Location:
The Obudu Cattle Ranch known presently as the Obudu Mountain Resort is found on the Obudu Plateau close to the Cameroon Border in the North Eastern part of Cross River State of Nigeria, approximately 110 km east of the town of Ogoja and 65 km from the town of Obudu in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State.[1] It is about 30 minutes drive from Obudu town and is about 332 km drive from Calabar,the Cross River State capital

Climate of the ranch:
The climate on the obudu cattle ranch is the semi-temperate mountain climate, which is the general weather condition experienced on the obudu plateau due to its altitude.

Tourism:
The ranch has in recent times seen an influx of tourist both Nigerian and international tourist because of the development of tourist facilities in the ranch by Cross-River State Government which has turned the ranch into one of the well known holiday and tourist resort centers in Nigeria

The second edition of the Mare Festival a world class Mountain Climbing Expedition Festival organized by the Ondo State government and in which Mountain climbers from all over the world are participating Climbers converge at Idanre Hills in Idanre Council area of Ondo State.Before now the tourism industry in the State got a global boost as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced plans to enlist Oke Idanre Hills in Idanre local government area of the state into the World Heritage list.This development makes the ancient Hills the third World Tourists Centre in Nigeria following the earlier enlistment of Osun Oshogbo in Osun State and Suku cultural heritage in Adamawa State. The development would also act as catalyst for the efforts of the State government to turn the State into a tourists' haven and a must visit place in Nigeria.

Also, the world body had already approved the Idanre Hills nomination dossier and consequently dispatched an independent inspector to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the facilities on the site as contained in the dossier.
