We're celebrating our first ever Dia de Los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead to English speakers, in Aguascalientes Mexico. Before coming to this city, we had no idea what to expect for Dia de Muertos OR the city itself. Now, we can safely say that neither the hype about this Mexican holiday nor the city itself let us down. We had an absolute blast at the Isla de San Marcos celebrations in Aguascalientes and all across the city.
As the Dia de Muertos festivities come to a close, we try to enjoy the last bits of time in what we think is an incredibly underrated city in Mexico. Everyone talks about the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico in Patzcuaro and the surrounding cities or the big shenanigans in Mexico City, but we can't imagine why no one considers Aguascalientes!
We only planned to stay here for a few days during our Dia de Los Muertos trip, but the kind and generous people, polite drivers, beautiful sunsets, and charming culture have us planning another trip back to Aguascalientes PRONTO!! :)

Modern Meets Colonial: Our First Time in...???
Welcome to Aguascalientes! Join us as we discover the colonial city of Aguascalientes. Over the next few days we will find things to do in Aguascalientes, the best food in Aguascalientes, and just get a feel for the city!
Aguascalientes, Mexico
Aguascalientes, founded 430 years ago, offers a splendid assortment of old neighborhoods, churches, plazas, gardens, architectural monuments, modern edifices, museums, bullfight arenas and swimming resorts with thermal waters. In this city, you can also attend various traditional events, such as the Festival de las Calaveras (Festival of Skulls) and the San Marcos National Fair, one of the best and oldest showcases of regional culture and folklore. The fair's diverse offering includes art exhibits, cultural events, dance performances and cockfights.
Also of interest are the city's five traditional neighborhoods: La Estacion, La Salud, El Encino, Guadalupe and San Marcos, each with its own rich history, strong religious traditions and fascinating baroque architecture.
And then there are the churches of Aguascalientes, such as San Diego, Nuestra Señora del Rosario and the Basilica-Cathedral in the Historic Center, all of which invite you to appreciate the religious splendor of the colonial era.
Another strong draw are the crafts, particularly the embroidered garments, which are made using techniques handed down from generation to generation and have become an important regional cultural symbol. Aguascalientes also produces some of the best wines in the country, which combine perfectly with local dishes like lomo de la abuela and a wide variety of other regional culinary delights.

Day of the Dead Parade in AGUASCALIENTES, MEXICO
We're celebrating our first Dia de Los Muertos in Mexico with Festival de Calaveras in Aguascalientes!
►Start learning Spanish!
Augascalientes, AGS has one of the largest but still relatively unknown Dia de Muertos celebrations in México! Everyone knows about the huge parade in CDMX and the giant celebration in Patzcuaro, Michoacan but we wanted to do something that wasn't already documented by every other YouTuber in Mexico!
Mexico is rich with tradiciones or traditions, and Día de Muertos is one that has not disappointed!! Festival de Calaveras in Aguascalientes has tons of events happening this week. From Altar de Muertos, to parades (desfile), a giant catrina, decorated calaveras (skulls) around town.
Everyone might rave about Dia de Los Muertos in Mexico City and Patzcuaro but we think Aguascalientes is right up there with these other destinations for Day of the Dead!
If you want to travel Mexico, we highly recommend a stop in AGS! From the gorgeous sunsets to the low prices and friendly people. This city has a lot more going for in than a desfiles (parades) and their Dia de Muertos celebration!
