Alba Iulia | Romania's BEST Kept Secret
Alba Iulia, is one of Romania’s best kept secrets. I’ve never seen Alba Iulia show on anyone’s Top 10 List of Places to Visit in Romania, and had no idea what to expect when we decided to visit. To say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Alba Iulia has an amazing and beautiful historic fortified city center in the shape of a star. Having once been settled by the Romans it hosts an impressive collection of Roman ruins and artifacts. I would most definitely encourage anyone traveling to Romania to put Alba Iulia on your list of places to visit.

ALBA IULIA - the most beautiful citadel in Romania
Alba Iulia is one of the oldest settlements in Romania and was formerly the capital of the Roman province, Dacia.
With 2000 years of history imprinted on the city, the buildings and the monuments were cool memories of Europes' past at every step, offering spectacular time travel to all visitors.
Alba Iulia is the most beautiful citadel in Romania and the largest citadel in Central and South-Eastern Europe.
The city, known for its vineyards, is often considered as the cultural and spiritual capital city of Romania.
Alba Iulia preserves architectural, cultural and historical values which are representative for most of the European nations.

One of the oldest settlements in Romania, the highlight of Alba Iulia is the fortress that encompasses the entirety of the city center.
The city itself is quite small and you'll need a few hours to thoroughly explore the fortress and surrounding urban areas.

ALBA IULIA CITADEL : TRANSYLVANIA ROAD TRIP PART 6 | ROMANIA
Alba Iulia has the largest citadel in Romania. The citadel itself is also known as the Alba Carolina Fortress. We are blessed enough to be able to see and visit it. It is also very rich in history and the most lively fortress that we've seen so far. We were able to watch the performance of the Changing of the Guard Ceremony and were also entertained by a Medieval Fight and Medieval Dance performances. You will only feel excitement by seeing these performances and not to mention, there are a lot of food vendors and small local shops inside the fortress. The architecture of this citadel is truly amazing. Even the design of the fortress when seen from above is shaped like a STAR. We enjoyed visiting this place and we highly recommend it!
