Aliceville is a city in Pickens County, Alabama, located thirty-six miles west of Tuscaloosa. At the 2010 census its population was 2,486, down from 2,567 in 2000. Founded in the first decade of the 20th century and incorporated in 1907, the town has become notable for its World War II-era prisoner-of-war camp, Camp Aliceville. Since 1930, it has been the largest town in Pickens County. On February 2, 2016, the town was hit by an EF2 tornado, causing heavy damage in the area.

1. Aldridge Gardens Hoover
Aldridge Gardens is a 30-acre garden, prominently featuring hydrangeas, located on the former Aldridge Estate in Hoover, Alabama, United States. Local nurseryman Eddie Aldridge purchased the property from the Coxe family in 1977 as a residence. Aldridge, who along with his father, Loren L. Aldridge, found and patented Hydrangea quercifolia 'Snowflake', a double-flowering form of Oakleaf Hydrangea. In 1997 the gardens were conveyed to the City of Hoover and formally dedicated to the public. The site is now managed by a non-profit organization. A new master plan was approved in 1997 to guide the future development of the gardens. The gardens contain extensive hydrangea plantings, as well as a five acre lake with walking trails. 2. Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park Mccalla
The Tannehill Ironworks is the central feature of Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park near the unincorporated town of McCalla in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Tannehill Furnace, it was a major supplier of iron for Confederate ordnance. Remains of the old furnaces are located 12 miles south of Bessemer off Interstate 59/Interstate 20 near the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains. The 2,063-acre park includes the John Wesley Hall Grist Mill, May Plantation Cotton Gin House, and the Iron & Steel Museum of Alabama.

Sumter County Barbecue Traditions Continue | This is Alabama

In June of every year, Panola United Methodist Church in Sumter County, Alabama puts on a barbecue fundraising event featuring six whole hogs cooked over a pit for 24 hours. Sumter County is known for it's barbecue clubs, and while this event isn't technically a club, it's part of a long tradition of barbecue in the area.

The Moundville Archaeological Park & Museum

Called “The Big Apple of the 14th Century” by National Geographic, Moundville Archaeological Park was once the site of a powerful prehistoric community that, at its peak, was America’s largest city north of Mexico. Located on the Black Warrior River near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the park preserves 326 acres where, 800 years ago, Mississippian Indians constructed 28 massive flat-topped earthen pyramids, arranged carefully around a vast central plaza. The site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
