Alpine is a census-designated place in the Cuyamaca Mountains of San Diego County, California. Alpine had a population of 14,236 at the 2010 census, up from 13,143 at the 2000 census. The town is largely surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest and borders two reservations of the Kumeyaay Nation, Viejas and Sycuan, and the rural unincorporated areas of the city of El Cajon.

The center is owned by Premium Outlets, a subsidiary of Simon Property Group, and takes its name from the town in which it is located. Opened in late 1985, expanded in 1993, and again in 1998, the center now has 220 stores occupying more than 800,000 square feet and is one of the largest contiguous outlet centers in the world.
