Springhill is a community located in central Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. The community was originally named Springhill Mines. Coal mining lead to economic growth, with its incorporation as a town in 1889. The mines in the Springhill coalfield were established in the 19th century, and by the early 1880's were being worked by the Cumberland Coal & Railway Company Ltd. and the Springhill & Parrsboro Coal & Railway Company Ltd. These entities merged in 1884 to form the Cumberland Railway & Coal Company Ltd., which its investors sold in 1910 to the industrial conglomerate Dominion Coal Company Ltd. . All coal mining had ceased in the area by the early 1970's. The community is famous for both the Springhill Mining Disaster and being the childhood home of international recording star ...

A Visit to Cobourg - Ontario's Feel-Good Town

Cobourg, 95 kilometres (59 miles) east of Toronto, is the largest town in and seat of Northumberland County in Southern Ontario. Cobourg retains its small-town atmosphere in part due to the downtown and surrounding residential area's status as a Heritage Conservation District. The downtown is a well-preserved example of a traditional small-town main street. Victoria Hall, the town hall completed in 1860, is a National Historic Site of Canada, according to Wikipedia.

One of the town's main attraction is Cobourg Beach, site of the popular Sandcastle Festival. There were at least 10 master sculptors who participated in the event that ended Aug. 5. Sandsculpting lessons were provided during the event. The intermittent rains on Monday, Aug. 7 left some of the sand sculptures barely intact.
