A lesser known European country: Albania
How much do you know about this country? The capital of Albania is Tirana and Saranda is the most famous tourist attractions of the Albanian Riviera. But what about the rest of this place?

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about this country from the Western Balkans. Although most people have heard of Albania, not many things are known about it. Which is a shame, because it’s an old and very interesting country.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. Under the leadership of Enver Hoxha, Between 1950 to 1985 around 700,000 bunkers were built in Albania, they are nearly impossible to destroy so many are still in existence. During the nearly forty-year leadership of this paranoid Communist ruler a bunker was built for every four inhabitants.
2. Nodding your head in Albania is a disagreement while shaking the head means yes, so it can get pretty confusing for tourists.
3. There are more Albanians outside of Albania than within.
Estimates of the number of Albanians residing abroad are anywhere from 7-10 million, mostly in other Balkan countries (Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece), but there are also a significant amount in Turkey, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the United States. The number of Albanians actually living inside Albania? Around 3 million.
4. The Albanian language is an anomaly. It is believed that it originates from ancient Thracian or Illyrian. It shares a number of words with similar or exact meaning and pronunciation with the Romanian language, which is also believed to be related to Thracian.
5. Mercedes Benz is the brand of choice in Albania. 80% of the cars in Albania are Mercedes-Benz. Plus buses and vans. Why? They're robust and powerful, ideal for the bad roads in this country and spare parts are easy to find. They're also a bit of a status symbol. Who wants to drive anything else if you can have a Mercedes?
6. Enver Hozha declared beards illegal, outlawed religion, Albania becoming the first atheist state in the world. He also banned jeans, miniskirts, lipstick, premarital sex, boxing, bananas, westerners, Yugoslavs, Russians, Chinese, etc.
7. Tirana, the capital of Albania, has no street names - The problem dates from 1991 and the collapse of Albania's communist regime. The old communist-era street names were torn down, but little progress has been made towards replacing them - many street signs are still scratched out or missing completely. So locations are described not by its postal address, but by the descriptions of the buildings in the surrounding areas.

Teach every child about food | Jamie Oliver
Sharing powerful stories from his anti-obesity project in Huntington, W. Va., TED Prize winner Jamie Oliver makes the case for an all-out assault on our ignorance of food.
Jamie Oliver is transforming the way we feed ourselves, and our children. Jamie Oliver has been drawn to the kitchen since he was a child working in his father's pub-restaurant. He showed not only a precocious culinary talent but also a passion for creating (and talking about) fresh, honest, delicious food. In the past decade, the shaggy-haired Naked Chef of late-'90s BBC2 has built a worldwide media conglomerate of TV shows, books, cookware and magazines, all based on a formula of simple, unpretentious food that invites everyone to get busy in the kitchen. And as much as his cooking is generous, so is his business model -- his Fifteen Foundation, for instance, trains young chefs from challenged backgrounds to run four of his restaurants.
Now, Oliver is using his fame and charm to bring attention to the changes that Brits and Americans need to make in their lifestyles and diet. Campaigns such as Jamie's School Dinner, Ministry of Food and Food Revolution USA combine Olivers culinary tools, cookbooks and television, with serious activism and community organizing -- to create change on both the individual and governmental level.

This film series explores many aspects of our society. To rethink what is possible in our world, we need to consider what kind of world we want to live in. Although we refer to it as a civilization, it is anything but civilized. Visions of global unity & fellowship have long inspired humanity, yet the social arrangements up to the present have largely failed to produce a peaceful and productive world. While we appear to be technically advanced, our values and behaviors are not. The possibility of an optimistic future is in stark contrast to our current social, economic, and environmental dilemmas. The Choice Is Ours includes interviews with notable scientists, media professionals, authors, and other thinkers exploring the difficulties we face.
Part I provides an introduction and overview of cultural & environmental conditions that are untenable for a sustainable world civilization. It explores the determinants of behavior to dispel the myth of “human nature” while demonstrating how the environment shapes behavior. The science of behavior is an important - yet largely missing - ingredient in our culture.
Part II questions the values, behaviors, and consequences of our social structures, and illustrates how our global monetary system is obsolete and increasingly insufficient to meet the needs of most people. Critical consideration of the banking, media, and criminal justice systems reveals these institutions for what they really are: tools of social control managed by the established political and economic elite. If we stay the present course, the familiar cycles of crime, economic booms & busts, war, and further environmental destruction are inevitable.
Part III explains the methods and potential of science. It proposes solutions that we can apply at present to eliminate the use of non-renewable sources of energy. It depicts the vision of The Venus Project to build an entirely new world from the ground up, a “redesign of the culture,” where all enjoy a high standard of living, free of servitude and debt, while also protecting the environment.
Part IV explains how it is not just architecture and a social structure that is in desperate need of change, but our values which have been handed down from centuries ago. They too need to be updated to our technological age, which has the potential to eliminate our scarcity-driven societies of today. Our problems are mostly of our own making, but we can still turn things around before the point of no return. It’s not too late for an optimistic outlook on the fantastic possibilities that lie before us.

The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt, and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world.
