Hi guys! This is David of David’s Been Here.com and I hope you’re hungry because today I’m teaming up with Triposo to show you the top 5 Cuban sandwiches in Miami.
Triposo is a travel app that I’ve used in my travels to find hotels, restaurants, sights and activities. I love that I can create my own city guides and that it works offline so I don’t have to worry about data charges. Today I’m using it in my hometown of Miami to search for the best Cuban sandwiches in the city!
As you know Miami has a huge Cuban-American community, and here, people take their Cuban sandwiches very seriously.
First stop is Versailles, the most famous Cuban restaurant in the world. It’s is a family-owned restaurant since 1971 and it’s located on Calle Ocho. For decades Versailles has been ground zero for the Cuban-American exile community and a gathering point for anti-Castro protests.
This is also the place to come for classic Cuban cuisine.
Nicole Valls, a 3rd generation owners explain’s what a Cuban sandwich is and how they put their’s together.
I personally like eating my Cuban sandwich with a cafesito, a very strong Cuban coffee!
Next up were heading to El Rey de las Fritas, also on Calle Ocho. A frita isn’t like a typical Cuban sandwich, but it is a sandwich and its Cuban so I’m into it!
Angelina the owner tells us that a frita is a burger with Cuban flavors. Their ingredients are a secret! They also add onions and fries ontop!
Follow me as I continue along Calle Ocho to Sarussi Subs, which is also mentioned by the Triposo App as having an awesome Cuban sandwich.
Sarussi Subs has been around for over 50 years and has been featured on Travel Channel’s Man v. Food. You better come hungry to this place because I hear their Cuban sandwich is enormous!
Now we head to nearby Downtown Miami to see what’s cooking at Sparky’s Roadside Barbecue. Here they call it the “Ex-Patriate” Sandwich.
Hans the owner explains to us that the secret to their Cuban sandwich is that they cure, roast and sauté the pork!
Last but not least my Triposo app is recommending Cane a Sucre, which means “Sugarcane” in French. This place puts a French twist on the classic Cuban sandwich.
Mark the manager breaks down the ingredients they use. The biggest difference is that they use a French baguette and aioli.

Mark discovered an amazing secret – one that changed his life – and is dedicated to sharing the good news. Mark previously owned a leasing company and first travel overseas was on a company fishing trip to the Amazon River in Brazil. After the fishing trip he stayed and met some local ladies and what he experienced overseas changed his expectations for love, passion, and beauty forever. Soon after he began to date overseas with the intention of finding a life partner; he succeeded and married Anna Astafieva, from Nikolaev Ukraine. But he wasn’t the only one. Several friends found their life partners overseas and encouraged him to write a book about their discovery.
Since that first book was published in 2009 “Mastering the Adventure of International Dating” (Amazon.com: he and Anna have appeared on Dr. Phil, The TODAY Show, Women’s Entertainment Network, and conducted over 50 radio interviews. Mark and Anna now host groups of men on “Quest Tours” with their company, Dream Connections, with an 80% success rate.
Anna grew up in the town of Nikolaev, Ukraine, as Anna Astafieva. She has four generations of family there and openly declares that she would not have left if she could have found a faithful, family oriented man in her home town. She graduated high school at age 16 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in fashion. She worked and managed a crew at a local clothing factory and was asked to participate as a runway model for the company once or twice a month. Her boss at the factory was the one who suggested she might want to sign up with the ‘marriage agency’. She took her bosses’ advice and the rest is history.
Mark and Anna now work together to help good men from the West meet sincere women from Ukraine, Colombia, and Thailand – and aggressively combat the mail order bride stereotype myths.
In the years that followed their introduction Mark wrote a book and they have both been featured on cable TV shows, The TODAY Show with Matt Lauer, and more. When they first considered hosting their own introduction events, they took a hard look at the way things were being done and saw the need for something more authentic. Something that was truly focused on helping good men find a spouse and eliminating the bad eggs from both sides.
Dream Connections is the realization of that dream.
It has been very rewarding to see that our ideas have proven to work. Men who go on our tours are finding themselves connecting deeply with sincere women in Ukraine, Mark said. We know that these trips cost money and take time away from careers. It just makes sense to create a system that maximizes that opportunity to make lasting connections.
