İzmir is a city in the western extremity of Anatolia and the third most populous city in Turkey, after Istanbul and Ankara.[1][2] İzmir's metropolitan area extends along the outlying waters of the Gulf of İzmir and inland to the north across Gediz River's of delta, to the east along an alluvial plain created by several small streams and to a slightly more rugged terrain in the south. The ancient city was known as Smyrna (Greek: Σμύρνη Smyrni), and the city was generally referred to as Smyrna in English, until the Turkish Postal Service Law of 28 March 1930 made İzmir the internationally recognized name.
The city of İzmir is composed of several metropolitan districts. Of these, Konak district corresponds to historical İzmir, this district's area having constituted the İzmir Municipality (Turkish: İzmir Belediyesi) area until 1984, Konak until then having been a name for a central neighborhood around Konak Square, still the core of the city. With the constitution of the Greater İzmir Metropolitan Municipality (Turkish: İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi), the city of İzmir became a compound bringing together initially nine, and more recently eleven metropolitan districts, namely Balçova, Bayraklı, Bornova, Buca, Çiğli, Gaziemir, Güzelbahçe, Karabağlar, Karşıyaka, Konak and Narlıdere. Almost all of these settlements are former district centers or neighborhoods which stood on their own, with their own distinct features and temperament. In an ongoing processus, the Mayor of İzmir was also vested with authority over the areas of additional districts reaching from Bergama in the north to Selçuk in the south, bringing the number of districts to be considered as being part of İzmir to twenty-one under the new arrangements, two of these having been administratively included in İzmir only partially.
In 2014, İzmir had a population of 2,847,691, while İzmir Province had a total of 4,113,072.

Istanbul is a city with a thousand-year old history. The city of palaces, mosques, parks, fountains, eastern markets and bustling streets. The bridge connects Sultanakhmet's region with the region of Galatian, which is on the opposite side of the Golden Horn gulf. Fishermen have been stationed here permanently since long time ago.
The fish is sold directly there — under the fishermen.
On the ground level of the bridge, there is a long line of cafes, considered for tourists, and restaurants. The prices are higher here, but the atmosphere is special. You are served the fish, that flew out of the water, literally past your nose, only 5 minutes ago.
Istiklyal Street comes back to life with the nightfall. They are frying kebabs directly in the show-window. The sellers-acrobats are evidently enjoying the process of selling ice cream. There is a lot of movement in the shops. Seems like, all city has come on this street with the nightfall. Here they have an ancient tram. It is still used for its original purpose — the transportation of passengers. But in the evenings, the tram car receives one more function. It becomes a mobile concert venue.
The small less-known town of Iznik was called Nicea in the ancient times. Exactly here, in the fourth century, where the Ecumenical council took place, the Christian symbol of Faith was accepted. And in the 12th century, the city was the capital of the powerful Byzantine empire.
Bursa — the homeland of the Ottoman Empire. Many ancient mosques have remained here. A person can pay a visit only when he is pure - both in mind and in body.
Kutahya — one of the most ancient cities on the territory of Turkey. At the top of the rock, towering over the center of the Old town, there are the preserved fortress ruins, that existed already at the time of the Romans.

Known as Smyrna in antiquity, it was founded by the Greeks, taken over by the Romans and rebuilt by Alexander the Great before becoming part of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. Today, its expansive archaeological sites include the Roman Agora of Smyrna, now an open-air museum. The hilltop Kadifekale, or Velvet Castle, built during Alexander’s reign, overlooks the city.
During the video you will see me presenting the official brochure (given to all the tourists of the city) describing how the area was first occupied by the AMAZONS(!!), instead of the GREEKS! Since I was born in Greece, according to the Turkish tourist office in Izmir, I AM AN AMAZON!!!! Hurray!!

Istanbul (Turkish: İstanbul) is the largest city in Turkey, constituting the country's economic, cultural, and historical heart. Founded on the Sarayburnu promontory around 660 BC as Byzantium, the city now known as Istanbul developed to become one of the most significant cities in history. For nearly sixteen centuries following its reestablishment as Constantinople in 330 AD, it served as the capital of four empires: the Roman Empire (330–395), the Byzantine Empire (395–1204 and 1261–1453), the Latin Empire (1204–1261), and the Ottoman Empire (1453–1922).[5] It was instrumental in the advancement of Christianity during Roman and Byzantine times, before the Ottomans conquered the city in 1453 and transformed it into an Islamic stronghold and the seat of the last caliphate.[6] Although the Republic of Turkey established its capital in Ankara, palaces and imperial mosques still line Istanbul's hills as visible reminders of the city's previous central role.
Istanbul's strategic position along the historic Silk Road,[7] rail networks to Europe and the Middle East, and the only sea route between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean have helped foster an eclectic populace, although less so since the establishment of the Republic in 1923. Overlooked for the new capital during the interwar period, the city has since regained much of its prominence.
