The municipality has a population of 8,181 and covers an area of 755.55 square kilometres of which 192.13 km2 is water. The population density is 14.52 inhabitants per square kilometre . The municipality is unilingually Finnish, by law since 1996.

    Vääksy is a village and seat of the municipality of Asikkala in southern Finland. It is located on an isthmus between Päijänne and Vesijärvi, about 20 kilometres north of Lahti. The Vääksy canal, Vesijärven kanava, is located in Vääksy. Its length is 1,3 km and the height difference is about 3 metres. Nowadays it is the most popular freshwater canal in Finland. The canal was built in 1869-71 and completed in 1903-06.

    Nuuksio National Park is one of Finland's 40 national parks. Established in 1994, the park spreads over an area of forests and lakes in Espoo, Kirkkonummi and Vihti. North-west from Helsinki, it is the second-closest national park to the capital behind the recently established Sipoonkorpi National Park. The name is derived from the Nuuksio district of Espoo. Located less than 30 kilometers from downtown Helsinki, the park can easily be reached by public transportation. Bus 245A leaves from Espoon keskus to Nuuksionpää and Kattila during daytime. Within the park there are eight marked trails for hiking. These trails vary in length and difficulty, being between 1.5 km and 17 km long.     Repovesi National Park is situated in the municipalities of Kouvola and Mäntyharju, only a few hours north-east of the more populous Helsinki area of southern Finland.     The Sibelius Hall is a concert hall in Lahti, Finland, named after the composer Jean Sibelius. The concert hall was completed in 2000. Architects Kimmo Lintula and Hannu Tikka designed the hall, which is made out of glulam. The acoustics were engineered by Artec Consultants, New York. Its acoustics are one of its strongest points, while the architecture follows the Scandinavian tradition of sophisticated design. The concert hall has a capacity of 1,250 seats. The Sibelius Hall is home to the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
