The Hermannsdenkmal is a monument located southwest of Detmold in the district of Lippe, in Germany. It stands on the densely forested Grotenburg, sometimes also called the Teutberg or Teut, a hill in the Teutoburger Wald range. The monument is located inside the remains of a circular rampart. The monument was constructed between 1838 and 1875 to commemorate the Cherusci war chief Arminius and his victory over Rome at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. When the statue was built, its location was believed to be near the original battle site, although experts now consider it more likely that the battle took place near Kalkriese, about 100 km to the north-west.

The Externsteine [ˈɛkstɐnʃtaɪnə] is a distinctive sandstone rock formation located in the Teutoburg Forest, near the town of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the Lippe district of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The formation is a tor consisting of several tall, narrow columns of rock which rise abruptly from the surrounding wooded hills. In a popular tradition going back to an idea proposed to Hermann Hamelmann in 1564, the Externsteine are identified as a sacred site of the pagan Saxons, and the location of the Irminsul idol reportedly destroyed by Charlemagne; there is however no archaeological evidence that would confirm the site's use during the relevant period. Soest is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the capital of the Soest district. After Lippstadt, a neighbouring town, Soest is the second biggest town in its district.
Because of the fertile soil the area around Soest was occupied long before 836 when the village is first mentioned in the Dagobertsche Schenkung, although the origin of this document is historically uncertain. But there is no doubt that Soest has been inhabited for a long time; excavations in the last two decades have uncovered signs of habitation stretching back more than 4000 years. In the 11th and 12th century Soest grew considerably, making it one of the biggest towns in Westphalia with some 10,000 citizens.
Soest has a multitude of historical buildings and attractions. The many medieval churches are build from a greenish sandstone unique to this area.
Among the old specialties of Soest are the Möppkenbread and the Pumpernickel. The Bakery Haverland at the town center, former royal Bavarian court supplier of the dark bread, has existed since 1570. Another specialty of Soest is the Soester Beer, also called Zwiebel-Bier(or Giebels-Bier) which literally translates as Onion beer, because it's brewed since 1993 in the Zwiebel (Onion) inn.

Die Externsteine

Im Nordostteil von Nordrhein-Westfalen, im Südteil des Kreises Lippe bzw. im Teutoburger Wald gelegen, gehören die Externsteine zum Horn-Bad Meinberger Stadtteil Holzhausen-Externsteine..Die Felsgruppe ragt in der sonst weitgehend steinfreien Umgebung maximal 47,7 m über die Oberfläche des „Wiembecketeichs in die Höhe und erstreckt sich linienförmig über mehrere Hundert Meter Länge. Sie beginnt etwas versteckt im Wald mit vereinzelten kleinen Felsen und zieht sich hin bis zu den gut sichtbaren 13 relativ freistehenden Einzelfelsen. Diese Felsenburg besteht aus relativ hartem und daher ziemlich verwitterungsresistentem Osning-Sandstein. Er wurde in der Unteren Kreidezeit vor etwa 120 Millionen Jahren am Rande eines großen Meeres gebildet, das damals einen Großteil des nördlichen Mitteleuropa bedeckte.Bereits 1926 wurden die Externsteine als „eines der ältesten und bedeutendsten Naturschutzgebiete im Kreis Lippe unter Schutz gestellt.Zwischen einer halben und einer Million Menschen besuchen jährlich die Externsteine. Von verschiedenen, im weitesten Sinne esoterischen Gruppen werden die Externsteine als „Kraftort mit außergewöhnlichen geomantischen und spirituellen Eigenschaften angesehen. Festivalartig finden in jedem Jahr zur Walpurgisnacht und Sommersonnenwende die deutschlandweit größten, informell organisierten Treffen vieler Gruppen und Einzelpersonen aus dem esoterischen Spektrum statt.
