Confucius Temple, Wuwei
The Confucius Temple is known also as the Wenmiao Temple in Chinese, and is situated in the southeast of Wuwei City. This ancient complex dates from the Ming Dynasty having been established in 1439 on instructions from the reigning emperor and with the strong backing of public subscription. Baiyin morning delight... (HD)
I have already recorded the morning passenger train from Baiyin to Shenbutong here before, but I'm not going to apologize for the fact that I decided to repeat it, as this is an amazing view in my opinion, I hope you all agree? :-) Either way, I enjoyed recording this scene very much again... Shantytown Steam Railway New Zealand
Mit Volldampf durch den Regenwald in Neuseelands Südinsel!
Loco KAITANGATA - Sharp Stewart & Co. Glasgow, Scotland. Makers # 4270 built 1896. 22 ton, 10.5 x 18 cylinders, 160lb BP, 36 inch wheels TE 7000lb.
The main stay of the railway at Shantytown since its opening in 1972 has been the 'Improved F-Class Kaitangata'. This engine is based on the N.Z.R. (New Zealand Railways) 'F' class, and was built for the Kaitangata Coal & Railway Co. to work the 8 kilometre line from the coal mine at Kaitangata to the N.Z.R. exchange sidings at Stirling.
The coal company and railway were taken over by the State Mines Department in the 1950's with the locomotive continuing to operate the railway until the mine closed in 1969. In February 1971 the locomotive was donated to Shantytown.
The idea of Shantytown arose out of a meeting in Greymouth of a group of railway and vintage car enthusiasts in 1968. The group were keen to preserve West Coast relics and create a tourist attraction.
Barney Sutherland, a watchmaker and jeweller, who had an interest in gold-panning as a tourist attraction presented his idea of recreating an old West Coast town. The West Coast Historical and Mechanical Society was formed and soon after work began on the present site
