First Impression of Galapagos... One of the TOP Places On Our Bucket List!
See how to travel from Guayaquil, Ecuador to #PuertoAyora on Isla Santa Cruz, #Galapagos Islands. Take note that most people spend a small fortune to visit Galapagos by taking cruises which cost well into five figures. In this series of #TravelVlogs, we’re going to show you how to do more and spend less. So BE sure to watch our entire vlog series so that you can plan out your travel activities.
Because of how far the islands are from the mainland AND the entire Galapagos cluster of islands is an archipelago of volcanic islands, food & supplies are shipped in, which contributes to higher prices. But you don’t have to spend as much as you think, which allows more travelers to check this destination off their bucket list and experience the Galapagos sooner than people imagine.
Galapagos Islands along with all of Ecuador uses USD as their currency.
Before leaving Guayaquil, we paid for a $20 transit pass at the airport that must be purchased per traveler. Upon arriving to the Seymour Airport on Isla Baltra, we had to pay the $100 Galapagos Island Fee which goes towards maintenance of the islands, conservation, protection of the animals, infrastructure and the employees doing all the work (we found this out from one of the island’s National Park Rangers.)
After going through the airport, there’s a $5 bus fee to go to the Baltra Ferry which is $1 fee to cross the Itabaca Channel. Once you cross the channel, there’s two options to head 40ish km to Puerto Ayora:
Option 1: Take the $25 Taxi which is the island’s “transport” service and is 4-door pick-up truck
Option 2: Take the bus for $5
We ended up splitting the $25 taxi fee with a couple from the Netherlands, as it’s a directional fee, not a per-person fee! SCORE!

Quito Ecuador Travel Guide
Quito, formally San Francisco de Quito, is the capital city of Ecuador, and at an elevation of 9,350 feet, it is the highest official capital city in the world. Located in Ecuador, South America, Quito is situated in the Guayllabamba river basin, on the eastern slopes of Pichincha Volcano, an active stratovolcano in the Andes mountains.
Quito is the second most populous city in Ecuador, after Guayaquil. It is also the capital of the Pichincha Province and the seat of the Quito Canton|Metropolitan District of Quito. In 2008, the city was designated as the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations, UNASUR. Quito, a beautiful city and capital of Ecuador, offers great cultural activity throughout its districts and is a great starting point for visits to the rest of Ecuador.
The historic center of Quito has one of the largest, least-altered and best-preserved historic centers in the Americas, and is undoubtedly one of the cities main tourist attractions. Quito, along with Kraków, were the first World Cultural Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO in 1978. The central square of Quito is located about 25 km south of the equator; the city itself extends to within about 1 km of zero latitude. A monument and museum marking the general location of the equator is known locally as Mitad del Mundo (the middle of the world), to avoid confusion, as the word ecuador is spanish language for equator.
Quito is roughly divided into three parts: the Old City (Centro Histórico) in the middle, with South (Sur) and North (Norte) districts to either side. The South part is mainly industrial and residential, a working class area. The city's main inter-province bus terminal is located here in the Quitumbe district, as well as the main train station. The North part is the modern Quito, with high-rise buildings, shopping centers, the financial district (locally known as the micro-centro, and upper-class residential areas and some working-class housing areas. This area of Quito is also home to several museums, art galleries and the cities most renown education institutions, as well as home to a variety of restaurants and nightlife options.
The North Part of Quito is also home to the city's largest concentration of parks, with the most new one being Parque Bicentenario. The Old City continues to be Quito's main attraction. Quito's surrounding valleys (Valle de Tumbaco & Valle de los Chillos) also are great weekend get aways, with excellent local ecuadorian cuisine, as well as some great outdoor eco-tourism opportunities.

How to get to the Galapagos Islands
Somewhere in between the Pacific Ocean, laying over 600 miles off the beaches of Ecuador in South America, you can find one of the most wonderful and pristine places on the face of the Earth; The Galapagos Islands
A natural haven worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
This archipelago has been home to some endemic species for millions of year, many of which are a result of evolution, others came floating from the mainland, and a few, like the giant tortoises, still remain a mystery of how they arrived.
For all these reasons the Galapagos Islands are rightly famous but one further reason is that because of the lack of natural predators due to the volcanic origin of the islands and their remoteness, the animals are extremely tame and without instinctual fear.

You can literally sit down next to a sea lion on a beach or pose for a photo next to an iguana and the animals will not budge.
There are extremely few places in the world where you can get so close to the animals which in turn leads to amazing photo opportunities. Stunning landscapes, obliging animals and azure seas in the background mean that the Galapagos is also a world-class destination for photography.
So what would be the most memorable experiences in the Galapagos? What will you see that will stay with you forever?
Perhaps it will be snorkeling with curious sea lions, perhaps it will be the extraordinary quantity of wildlife at every turn, the mixture of a luxury yacht cruise and continual wildlife sightings, maybe seeing giant tortoises in the misty Santa Cruz highlands or laughing at the absurd mating rituals of the albatrosses and blue-footed boobies or perhaps just seeing your children fully engaged – for once – in the engrossing experience known as a Galapagos Cruise.

Ecuador travel - interview with Minister of Tourism Sandra Naranjo
Ecuador is a beautiful and fascinating country in South America, mainly known to many travelers for the Galapagos Islands. It's much more than that, with the Amazon Rainforest, the Andes and a vibrant Pacific Coastal region. I had a chance to spend some time with Sandra Naranjo, the country's Minister of Tourism. We discussed travel to Ecuador and how the country is working to develop its tourism infrastructure. I also learned how they are trying to appeal to American travelers and how it's also becoming a luxury travel destination.
Ecuador has branded its tourism campaign All You Need is Ecuador because of the diverse offerings and I agree. It provides a truly exotic travel experience, yet with travel providers that speak English and recognizable hotel and restaurant brands.
There is a vibrant art scene, a delicious foodie scene and also amazing adventure travel and water sports, especially surfing. Ecuador offers history, from ancient civilizations to intact Spanish Colonial cities and areas.

Galapagos Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Galapagos.
Intriguing and mysterious the islands of the Galapagos archipelago rise up from the Pacific Ocean. Around one thousand kilometres off the South American continent the extensive group of nineteen volcanic islands have an almost primeval appearance. These islands derived their name from the Spanish word for 'turtle'. For many centuries the giant turtles were considered to be a culinary delicacy and a total of fourteen sub-species of giant turtle inhabit the islands, some of which have been known to live for more than a hundred and fifty years. Even today ocean biologists and an assortment of other scientists follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin and in the 1960's a research station on one of the islands was named in his honour. With the introduction of non-indigenous dogs, cats and rats, the ecological balance on some of the islands has become critical, however, since 1959 the Galapagos Islands have been designated as a protected area.

Top 10 Reasons to Take a Galapagos Cruise with National Geographic
The Galapagos is an amazing place where animals can live without fear of humans. The conservation efforts by Ecuador have created a truly magical place. Tourism is strictly limited, even on the islands there's a limit to how many people can visit at one time. All of this is what makes the Galapagos unique where animals can just live and reproduce in peace.
I was lucky enough to be invited by National Geographic to join one of their cruises to the Galapagos, even better it was a photo cruise with Pulitzer Prize winning National Geographic photographer Jay Dickman, as well as a few other Nat Geo photo instructors and local naturalists.
