Barkhamsted is a town in Litchfield County in Connecticut and contains seven villages, West Hill, Mallory, Barkhamsted Center, Center Hill, Washington Hill, Pleasant Valley and Riverton. The population was 3,494 at the 2000 census. The town incorporated in 1779. Barkhamsted was named after Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England.

1. Saville Dam Barkhamsted
Saville Dam is an earthen embankment dam with masonry work on the eastern branch of the Farmington River in southwestern Barkhamsted, Connecticut. The dam is 135 ft. tall and 1,950 ft. long and has an uncontrolled spillway on its western portion. It creates the Barkhamsted Reservoir which has a volume of 36.8 billion US gallons and is the primary water source for Hartford, Connecticut. In 1927, the Metropolitan District Commission began to purchase land in the present-day footprint of the dam and reservoir. Construction of the dam commenced in 1936 while land to the north was being stripped of lumber and buildings. Before the Metropolitan District Commission named the Saville Dam in 1940 in honor of its chief engineer, Caleb Mills Saville, it was referred to as the Bill's Brook Dam after t...

Elizabeth Park is beautiful even before the roses bloom. Filmed on a warm mid-April day see the tulip garden and people enjoying a spring day in the park. Lunch at the Pond House makes for a wonderful day.

Nature Walk - Jones Mountain - New Hartford, CT

What a great place to take a walk! The view of New Hartford from the vista is beautiful. Be sure to check out the Foam Dome and amazing stone masonry remains. The slide show is of Jones Mountain Preserve. This lovely, 166 acre park is owned by the Town of New Hartford, CT. The trails are clearly marked and well maintained. The carriage road looks like it would be fun on cross country skis.
