Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Castro de Barona
The Castro de Baroña is a fort located in the parish of Baroña, a municipality of Porto do Son in the province of A Coruña. The settlement, surrounded by two walls and containing twenty roundhouses that still remain today, was built on a peninsula and inhabited from the 1st Century BC to the 1st Century AD.
A moat four metres wide by three metres deep, forming the first line of defence, was dug into the isthmus that connects the town to the fort. Beyond this, there is a rampart consisting of two almost parallel stone walls filled with sand and stone. It is thought that this rampart originally connected to the town walls, creating an area most likely without housing. The main wall is well preserved and has two sides, the one on the right is made up of three gradually rising stone walls, and the one on the left is similar to that of the isthmus.
To the right of the entrance there was a defensive tower where the walls narrowed, so it is assumed that it was shut with a gate to prevent the passage of carts. It is possible that the wall previously surrounded the entire fort. There is a sloped entrance that leads into the interior living space, which is divided into four separate parts. In the first, it is debated whether the construction on the left is either a long bench or a single fallen pillar. Within this building a fireplace, some earthenware artefacts and a hole for a post were found, indicating it could have been a forge. Set against the gate, there are other oval shaped structures with a hall and another that could have been a forge.
The next section is separated by a retaining wall and is reached by some stairs, which are the best preserved of all Galician forts. This section contains a group of houses forming an area sheltered from the wind. A trail leads to the highest part of the town where there are other surviving structures. Evidence suggests the town was self-sufficient. Inside the fort there was no water, springs or wells, thus there was the need to source water elsewhere. It is thought that food came primarily from the sea, and so basically consisted in shellfish and fish. They also ate cattle, goats, sheep and acorns. At the site there are remains of metalwork, masonry and textiles.
The Castro de Baroña was first excavated in 1933 by Sebastián González-García. The subsequent excavations were carried out by J. M. Luengo (1969-1970), Francisco Calo Lourido and Teresa Soeiro (1980 to 1984). Ánxel Concheiro (1984) and Francisco Calo (1985) reinforced the structural integrity of the fort, and a new round of excavations and renovations was started on May 21, 2012.

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Casco antiguo de Pontevedra
The historic center of Pontevedra, declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1951, is one of the best preserved in Galicia, and indisputable witness to the medieval splendor of the city, when Pontevedra was still closely linked to the sea.
The beauty of its streets and squares will seduce anyone who visits them, among popular and ancient houses that reveal the past of the city, with important architectural examples that preserve the charm of past times. Throughout the walk you will see the last hidalgo of Pontevedra, when walking to the passage of the many blazons that occupy the facades of all the historical helmet.
La Pla de la Leña, where the firewood used to be used to heat the kitchens, includes the three mansions that currently house the Provincial Museum, which is recognized as one of the most representative museums in Galician history, archeology and art. At one step, the Plaza de Verdura, where the products of the countryside could be marketed only a few years ago, became one of the main centers of the town, a meeting point for a refreshment before continuing our walk to Plaza del Teucro, name of the Greek arquero to which the foundation of Pontevedra is attributed to him.
Going down to the river bank we arrive at Mugártegui square - just before reaching the Plaza de Abastos - where the pazo currently occupying the seat of the Regulatory Council of the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin, flag of the well-known wine Albariño de area. Following our route, in the highest part of the historical center, we find the spectacular square of the Ferraria, where formerly the artisans worked the forge. Today it is a meeting place for many of the shows organized in the city, and it houses, among other buildings, the Convent of San Francisco, with its beautiful gardens.
Besides the representativeness and excellent state of preservation of its civil architecture, the historical center of Pontevedra stands out for its no less important religious architecture. Thus, the ruins of the old Convent of San Domingos, despite the fact that today only part of its external skeleton and the head of the old temple, are considered the best exponent of Galician Gothic.
Near the ruins of San Domingos is the Basilica of Santa Maria a Mayor, declared a National Monument, which should be emphasized the plateresque front of great size ordered to build polo old Gremio de Mareantes in the XV century, where depicted Christ of the Good Journey, to which the fishermen entrusted themselves before leaving to the sea.
In addition, it is worth mentioning several representative conventual churches, such as San Francisco, La Peregrina, with a scallop-shaped plant as a symbol of the Xacobeos Roads - and, a little further on, below the Plaza de la Leña, of San Bartolomeu and Santa Clara.

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) San Andres de Teixido
Santo André de Teixido is the official name of a small village from the municipality of Cedeira, in the Serra da Capelada which is near the cliffs. According to the National Institute of Statistics, in 2007, there were 49 inhabitants.
There is a sanctuary also called San Andrés de Teixido, which is a famous pilgrimage site. The Galician toponym Teixido means a place with abundant yew trees (“teixo” in Galician).
The Santo André (En: Saint Andrew) Chapel is a famous sanctuary where, according to the popular saying “vai de morto quen non foi de vivo,” those who do not visit while they are alive, will visit in another form once they are dead. In the area surrounding Santo André, along the sides of the paths leading down to the sanctuary, there are more than half a dozen milladoiros (referred to as amilladoiros in the Cedeira region) - some of which are kept in perfect condition.
These consist of a pile of small stones that are left in certain locations such as near sanctuaries, crossroads and sacred places. This tradition is still practiced by the pilgrims who go to the Santo André sanctuary, as shown by the extraordinary milladoiro that is located in O Campo do Choíño (Choíño Field) in the so-called Costa Pequeña (Small Coast). It is possible that ones at the Santo André Chapel, made of thousands of stones that pilgrims have been placing over centuries, are the only ones in the world like that. Between the villages of Veniño and Teixido there are up to twenty milladoiros. Legend has it that the stones of the milladoiros, “will speak at the Last Judgement” and will reveal which souls fulfilled the promise of going on the pilgrimage to Santo André. It is believed that the pilgrimage to Teixido dates back to the Iron Age, (during the height of the Castro culture). However, the first recorded pilgrimage appears in the will of a dying woman from Viveiro in the year 1391, who stated (originally in old Galician): Iten mando yr por min en romaria a Santo Andre de Teixido, porque llo tenno prometudo, et que le ponnan enno seu altar hua candea commo he hua muller de meu estado.
The structure of the church is a Gothic temple with maritime influences. The oldest conserved element of the Gothic era is the pointed ogee arch. The oldest parts such as the apse, which was initially vaulted, date back to the Andrade Age. The side door, consisting of an Isabelline style pointed arch, (typical of the late Gothic period) most likely served as the main door of the sanctuary from the 15th - 18th Century.

The Toxa waterfall is a waterfall located in the parish of Pazos , in the municipality of Silleda , in the province of Pontevedra . The river that causes the waterfall is the Toxa river , which overlooks its waters by an altitude of more than 60 meters . The waterfall, along with the monastery of Carboeiro , is situated in a natural landscape of great landscape value in the region of Deza , linked to the river courses of the Deza , Liñares , Ulla and Arnego rivers .
The monument that stands out in the region is the monastery of San Lourenzo de Carboeiro , founded in the 10th century by the counts of Deza. Another piece that can be visited is the church of Breixa , although its external aspect is not excessively attractive, in its interior it is possible to observe its apse and the ornamentation of its capitals . In this region there are still remains of Romanization that materialize on roads , mines or bridges such as Merza. Another monument is the medieval bridge of Taboada , through which the pilgrims passwho make the Vía da Prata .
On the outskirts of this waterfall we can also find a riverside forest that, due to the softness of the climate and the high humidity of the environment, has a large amount of fungi and liqueurs . Near this place we can also see the Sacra de Olives lagoon , which presides over the valley of the Curantes river or the small waterfall of the Kiss of Curants , near Pena do Foxo . In the lower course of the Arnego, before reaching the Ulla, small but very important cork oak spots are located , most of them to obtain crust .

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Castillo de Vimianzo
The Castle of Vimianzo , also known as Torres de Martelo , is located at the entrance of the town of Vimianzo , in the town hall of the same name, province of La Coruña . At present it hosts a permanent exhibition of popular crafts.
Castillo de Vimianzo is in very good condition. It conserves parts of century XIII , although the majority belong to the centuries XIV and XV. The building has irregular polygonal floor plan adapting to the terrain. It consists of three rectangular defensive towers around a courtyard of weapons in addition to the tribute tower , with its cantilevered battlements. The diamond-studded battlements that once surrounded the entire castle are only preserved in the Tower of Homage and in the walk of one of the walls.
Its perimeter is surrounded in its entirety by a deep moat. It also preserves the way of round and in the doorway of entrance to the patio you can see the shield with the head of wolf of Moscoso.
The closeness of the fortress to the coast allowed him to control the commercial routes of the North Sea , the sardine and salt business, and rescue the booty of ships that were wrecked on these coasts.
