Baunatal is a town in the district of Kassel, in Hesse, Germany. It is a comparatively young town which arose from fusion of the formerly independent municipalities Altenbauna, Altenritte, Großenritte, Guntershausen, Hertingshausen, Kirchbauna and Rengershausen in 1966.In 1999, the town hosted the 39th Hessentag state festival.

The Edersee Dam is a hydroelectric dam spanning the Eder river in northern Hesse, Germany. Constructed between 1908 and 1914, it lies near the small town of Waldeck at the northern edge of the Kellerwald. Breached by Allied bombs during World War II, it was rebuilt during the war, and today generates hydroelectric power and regulates water levels for shipping on the Weser river. At low water in late summers of dry years the remnants of three villages and a bridge across the original river bed submerged when the lake was filled in 1914 can be seen. Descendants of those buried there go to visit the graves of their ancestors.

3. Hermannsdenkmal Detmold
The Hermannsdenkmal is a monument located southwest of Detmold in the district of Lippe, in Germany. It stands on the densely forested Grotenburg, sometimes also called the Teutberg or Teut, a hill in the Teutoburger Wald range. The monument is located inside the remains of a circular rampart. The monument was constructed between 1838 and 1875 to commemorate the Cherusci war chief Arminius and his victory over Rome at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. When the statue was built, its location was believed to be near the original battle site, although experts now consider it more likely that the battle took place near Kalkriese, about 100 km to the north-west.

Written in her native tongue of Yiddish over the course of thirty years, her memoirs were originally intended to be an ethical will for her children and future descendants. Glückel's diaries are the only known pre-modern Yiddish memoirs written by a woman. The Memoirs of Glückel of Hameln provide an intimate portrait of German-Jewish life in the late seventeenth to early eighteenth centuries and have become an important source for historians, philologists, sociologists, literary critics, and linguists.

The Marburger Schloss , a.k.a. Landgrafenschloss Marburg, is a castle in Marburg, Hesse, Germany, located on top of Schlossberg . Built in the 11th century as a fort, it became the first residence of Landgraviate of Hesse . The Marburg Colloquy was held here in 1529. Today the building is used as a museum and as an event site.

The Externsteine [ˈɛkstɐnʃtaɪnə] is a distinctive sandstone rock formation located in the Teutoburg Forest, near the town of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the Lippe district of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The formation is a tor consisting of several tall, narrow columns of rock which rise abruptly from the surrounding wooded hills. In a popular tradition going back to an idea proposed to Hermann Hamelmann in 1564, the Externsteine are identified as a sacred site of the pagan Saxons, and the location of the Irminsul idol reportedly destroyed by Charlemagne; there is however no archaeological evidence that would confirm the site's use during the relevant period. Exploring the NUDE BEACH of St. Barth's! (MJ Sailing - EP 68)

It turns out you don't need a lot of money to be able to enjoy St. Barth's. You just need a scooter to take full advantage of all its beaches.

Having spent much of our time centered in Gustavia, we wanted to see what else the tropical paradise of St. Barthelemy had to offer. And prior to this, when we asked other travelers what there was to see and do on the island, their answer was always 'So and so beach'...and of course the airport.

Heading out in the morning we had a list of beaches to tackle, although really the main goal was just to drive and stop when something looked good. And it turns out...a lot of the beaches looked pretty good!

First was Anse de Colombier, which was a great hike leading to a beach and anchorage that left us drooling...and then back on the bike to Anse de Lorient which was fairly empty and had a laid back vibe.

Anse Marechal was the next stop for us...a popular beach with the kiteboarders. From the air, it was a spectacular view. Our fourth beach for the day we knew we needed to make a visit to. Anse de Grande Saline, or the nude beach. In French islands, all the beaches are topless, but usually they have one or two nude beaches also. And well....we kind of wanted the chance to go skinny dipping without getting a fine. The water here was amazing and we could have stayed all day.

There was a late lunch at JoJo's Burger Shack before watching the planes come in to land at the airport...the 3rd most dangerous in the world. And then and visit to our last beach of the day...Govuneuers Harbour.

Saint Barthelemy, you have really stolen our hearts.

Kassel slideshow 1900 and 2015

Some pictures I took with a friend, comparing old photos from Kassel with the architecture of today. Many buildings got destroyed or partially destroyed during the war (some buildings like the Auetor were demolished before the war). Some buildings remain as ruins, others got rebuilt from the first floor up. A few streets and market squares disappeared completely, like for example Altmarkt.
