Beckley is a city in and the county seat of Raleigh County, West Virginia, United States. It was founded on April 4, 1838. Beckley was named in honor of John James Beckley, who was the first Clerk of the House of Representatives and the first Librarian of Congress. It was founded by his son Alfred Beckley . Cascades is an area in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of western Virginia, United States, that has been recognized by the Wilderness Society as a special place worthy of protection from logging and road construction The area is named after a 60-foot waterfall on Little Stony Creek which flows out of the area into the New River. With easily accessible trails, the area has become a popular destination.

Traveling along Route 52 then Route 80 South from Panther to Iaeger (pronounced Yeager) and then on to the town of Bradshaw. At Bradshaw I turn right on to Route 83 West and head toward the Virginia state line, crossing over Bradshaw Mountain in the process.
