Cherrapunjee is a subdivisional town in the East Khashi Hills district in the Indian state of Meghalaya. The locals traditionally call it Sohra, however, the world knows it by the more popular name of “Cherrapunjee” or Cherrapunji. Once the wettest place on earth, Cherrapunjee today is the second rainiest place on earth after Mawsynram. Cherrapunjee receives close to a whopping 12 m of rain every year.
Best Time to Visit Cherrapunjee-
Cherrapunjee is perhaps the only place in India, which has just one season: the monsoon. The rainfall varies from heavy to medium to light, but there is no month without rain. Another surprising fact about Cherrapunji is that it rains mostly at night. Day-to-day activity is not really disrupted by the rain.
How to Reach Cherrapunjee-
Cherrapunjee is 59 km from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. A steep motorable road, almost perpetually bathed in mist as it climbs upwards on the last lap, leads up to Cherrapunjee. Buses and taxis play to Cherrapunjee from Shillong.
1. 7 Sisters Falls
Nohsngithiang Falls, also known as the Seven Sisters Waterfalls or Mawsmai Falls, is a seven-segmented waterfall located 1 kilometre south of Mawsmai village in East Khashi Hills. The water falls from a height of 315 metres and has an average width of 70 metres making it one of the tallest Waterfalls in India. The waterfalls get illuminated by the sun and the vibrant colors of the setting sun on the waterfalls makes it beautiful.
2. Nohkalikai Falls
Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Its height is 1115 feet. The waterfall is located near Cherapunjee, one of the wettest places on Earth. Nohkalikai Falls are fed by the rainwater collected on the summit of a comparatively small plateau and decrease in power during the dry season in December - February. Below the falls there has formed a plunge pool with unusual green colored water.
3. Mawsmai Cave
Revered as one of the most popular and notable landmarks in Cherrapunji is Mawsmai cave. Situated around 6 Kms from Cherrapunjee, the Mawsmai Caves are a major crowd puller that leaves tourists spellbound. These limestone caves have the distinction of being the only caves in Meghalaya that are lit enough to enable tourists to enjoy the natural formations in awe. The Mawsmai cave in Cherrapunji boasts of wide and amazing entrance with the dark and magical mystery inside. Though the caves are long, only a distance of 150 meters is open for tourists, while the other section is closed.
4. Dawki
Dawki or Dauki is a town in West Jayantia Hills District, Meghalaya. The small border town of Dawki has the famous river Umngot which is a major tourist destination in Meghalaya. Dawki lies between India and Bangladesh and is the trade hub between the two countries. This small city is also famous for its famous Umngot river and a beautiful bridge.
5. Eco Park
Eco Park is one of the popular tourist attractions of Cherrapunjee. It has been designed by the Meghalaya government to facilitate tourist to enjoy the ‘Green Canyons” of Sohra as well as the waterfalls that lie around it. There is a stream inside the park and one has to cross a bridge to get near the edge of the canyon. The scenic beauty from the edge is awe inspiring. On the other side of the Eco Park is a view point to see the Bangladesh plains. TheEco Park also houses a wide variety of orchids.

1. Forest Research Institute(FRI)
The premier research institute of forestry in India. Established in 1906 as the British Imperial Forestry Service. The site also contains a museum for forestry with six main sections that are Pathology Museum, Social Forestry Museum, Silviculture Museum, Timber Museum, Non-Wood Forest Products Museum and Entomology Museum.
2. Robber’s Cave
600 meters long river cave (Robber’s Cave) is known by the locals as Gucchupani. The cave is divided into two main parts with its highest fall being 10 meters long. The place is known for its unique natural phenomenon known as the disappearing stream. The place was believed to be used by the robbers to hide during the British Raj hence owing to its name.
3. Tapkeshwar Temple
It is one of the most famous temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Water drops from the ceiling of the natural cave trickle down over the shivalinga in a continuous downpour, making for an interesting spectacle, owing to which the temple has been christened Tapkeshwar.
It is Situated by the forest side, in the scenic setting on the banks of the Tons River, is an unusual and popular Shiva shrine inside a small, dripping cave known as Drona Cave. The small cave with this splendid scenery is said to have beeen once resided by Dronacharya- the teacher of Pandavas and Kauravas in the Hindu epic Mahabharata written by Ved Vyas. The cave is thus named Drona Cave after his name.
Top 10 Historical Places MUST visit in AGRA, UP
1. TAJ Mahal
It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare complex. Construction of the mausoleum was essentially completed in 1643 but work continued on other phases of the project for another 10 years. The construction project employed some 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects led by the court architect to the emperor, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage. In 2007, it was declared a winner of the New 7 Wonders of the World (2000–2007) initiative.
2. MEHTAB Bag
The Mehtab Bagh garden was the last of eleven Mughal-built gardens along the Yamuna opposite the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort; the first being Ram Bagh. It is mentioned that this garden was built by Emperor Babur. It is also noted that Emperor Shah Jahan had identified a site from the crescent-shaped, grass-covered floodplain across the Yamuna River as an ideal location for viewing the Taj Mahal.
3. AGRA Fort
Agra Fort was built in the year 1573 under the reign of Akbar – one of the greatest Mughal Emperors. It took more than 4000 workers and eight years of hardship to complete the fort. Knowing the significance of its location, Akbar built the fort to make it the main residence of the Mughals. The fort remained as the main residence of the emperors belonging to the Mughal dynasty until the year 1638.
4. BABY Taj
Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah is a Mughal mausoleum in the city of Agra in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Often described as a jewel box, sometimes called the Baby Tāj, the tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah is often regarded as a draft of the Tāj Mahal.
5. SIKANDRA
Sikandra is the mausoleum of Akbar. Akbar himself started construction of this beautiful monument. This structure has a perfect blending of Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Jain themes. Sikandra is named after Sikandar lodi, the Delhi ruler who was in power from 1488 to 1517.
6. FATEHPUR Sikri
Sikri an extension of the upper Vindhyan ranges is situated on the bank of a large natural lake, which has now mostly dried up. It is a pre-historic site and, with abundant water, forest and raw material, it was ideal for primitive man’s habitation.
7. JAMA Masjid
The Jama Masjid, is a 17th-century mosque in the World Heritage Site of Fatehpur Sikri in India. The Mughal emperor Akbar personally directed the building of the Jāmiʿ Masjid, which stretches some 540 feet (165 metres) in length. The mosque also known as the Friday Mosque is one of the largest mosques in India and is a most sought after pilgrimage site by the devotees.
8. GURU ka tal
Guru ka Tal is a historical Sikh pilgrimage place dedicated to the memory of ninth Guru Sri Guru Tegh Bahudar Ji. Guru ka Taal is near Sikandra in Agra.
9. RAM Bag
It is commonly believed that when Babur died in 1530 his mortal remains were temporarily kept in Chaubureja a place close to Itimad-ud-Daula tomb till these were taken for the final resting place at Kabul. The original name of the bagh was Aram Bagh, which was later corrupted to Ram Bagh under the Marathas, when they occupied Agra from 1775 to 1803 AD.
10. CHINI ka rauja
Chini ka Rauza is a funerary monument, rauza in Agra, India, containing the tomb of Allama Afzal Khan Mullah, a scholar and poet who was the Prime Minister of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.

Vidhana Soudha: Largest Legislative Building in India | Timings, Entry Fees and the Story Behind
Vidhana Soudha Bangalore is the largest Legislature and office building in India. It is truly a secular edifice, showing features of British, Dravidian, and Indo-Islamic architecture.
The Vidhana Soudha located on Dr Ambedkar Rd, Seshadripuram, Bengaluru, just opposite to The High Court of Karnataka. It is the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka. K. Hanumanthaiya, who was Chief Minister of the then Mysore from 1951 to 1956, will be long remembered in the annals of the History of the State for his administration and achievements built this imposing edifice.
Hanumanthaiya wanted Vidhana Soudha to symbolise the legislative sovereignty of the people like the capital in Washington or The House of Commons in London. Then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharalal Nehru laid the foundation on 13th July 1951. It was completed in the year 1956. About 5000 labourers worked on the project. Entire cost of the project was Rs 1.85 crore.
It is built largely with Bangalore granite, excavated from the areas around Mallasandra and Hessaraghatta. For visual effect and relief, Magadi pink and Turuvekere black stones have also been used.
Marvel of neo-Dravidian architecture and one of the most imposing building not only in Bangalore but in India. One of the interesting feature of this building in grand stairs in its front. The grand stairs have a flight of forty-five steps 204 feet wide 70 feet deep giving a direct access to the first floor leading to an Assembly Chamber.
The Vidhana Soudha has four floors above and one floor below ground level and sprawls across an area of 2,300 by 1,150 feet.
The Vidhana Soudha has three main floors. Its overall length is 700 feet, width is 350 feet and height is 150 feet. The building's central dome is sixty feet in diameter and is supported by eight pillars. It also has six smaller domes, four in front and two behind.
The building is illuminated on Sundays and public holidays.

1. Tibetan Buddhist Temple

1. Dalma Hills :

It houses archives of Tata Steel, a brilliant representation of its journey to being one of the biggest and most successful industries in the world.
7. Dimna Lake :
Dimna Lake is an artificial lake in Jamshedpur, which is situated at around 13 km from the city. This lake lies at the foot hills of Dalma Mountain ranges. The Dimna Lake is important for the city, as it serves like a water reservoir for the steel plant and the main drinking water source. This lake is half an hour drive away from the main city and can be visited by a cab or a bus. It is located in the Mirzadih Panchayat of Patamda Block and was constructed by the Tata Steel.
8. Sir Dorabji Tata Park :
Sir Dorabji Tata Park is named in the memory of the eldest son of JRD Tata.The Park has beautiful landscapes , well-kept lawns, exotic flowers and beautifully lit fountains. Every year in the December the park hosts a flower show.
9. Hudco Lake :
Hudco Lake was constructed artificially in the beautiful surroundings of the TELCO Colony. It is situated near a park which also houses an artificial waterfall that uses the water of the lake. The lake and park complex are located on a beautiful hillock and it provides a panoramic view of the entire city. This is an ideal spot for picnics and evening amusements.
10. Tribal Culture Center :
Established in 1990, Tribal Culture Centre aims to preserve and promote indigenous art and culture of Jharkhand. It is located at Jamshedpur, which is 140 km from Ranchi.
