Serene hike to the Lake Bouillouses Natural Site in Pyrenees-Orientales, France
It was the first day of our 2 day hike to the Pic Carlit (2921m). This bright sunny day started at the camping Pla de Barres and we planned to walk around 10 kms to the lake Pradeilles.
We were so excited to do this hike as it's been a long time since we ascended the peak Puigmal last year. All the first part of the trail was a very easy and relaxing walk along the banks of the river Tet. It is one of our favourit type of routes where you really get to enjoy the shadow of the forest and the water flowing nearby. It's been really tempting to get in the water and to take the bath in the river as there were some deep places where the water could be quite warm. The ground under our feet was very soft and bouncy to step at because of the amount of peat in it and it was such a nice feeling. Sometimes the trail was becoming very muddy and slippery but most of the time it was following the little forest paths. We met lots of beautiful flowers and greenery on the way as well as cows and horse pastures. And this land is known to be one of the best pasture lands in the region. We guess it's because of the abundance of water and thus lots of grass for the cattle. We tasted some wild strawberries and they were very sweet and delicious. Then to our sight opened up the view of the mountain range in the distance and one of them was our goal -Pic Carlit. The day was quite hot as it was the start of August and we were really glad to see the clouds coming out at one point. And we learnt throughout this year of hiking that the clouds are the blessing for a hiker and not necessarily mean the bad weather even though the footage can look less bright and cheerful. Closer to an end we had to conquer a steep uphill and got out to the lake Pradeilles. There we found a very nice place to camp right at the lakeside and we were glad to see the signs of the camping allowed in this area. This way we felt more secure and not concerned about hiding our tent or anything. And we were lucky to get a very picturesque spot all to ourselves even though there were lots of people hiking around. So we put up our tent, collected some water from the lake, cooked and ate our dinner and after watching the sun hiding behind the peaks we were out to sleep. And the next day was promising some new exciting adventures...

Argentina, Tierra del Fuego and its new electronic heaven
Argentina declared Tierra del Fuego a tax haven, so that the region can grow in population. Big electronics companies came to Tierra del Fuego and that changed the Argentinian town Ushuaia radically. What did the economy growth in Argentina bring to Tierra del Fuego and what are the electronic firms bringing to the inhabitants of the end of the world? What means this new development for the mountains and the nature in Tierra del Fuego?
Dutch presenter and film maker Stef Biemans travels across the back of the Andes and wonders how people are doing in South America. In the third episode he experiences life in Tierra del Fuego, that mostly is known for his amazing nature and that in the last years has also become a place where electronics are produced. How are people making a living here and what are they dreaming of in an area that is surrounded by emptiness?
Tierra del Fuego is the new migrant paradise of South America. Since the news has been circulating that at the southernmost tip of this continent you can easily get work in an Argentinian electronics factory, the capital Ushuaia has grown rapidly. The Argentine government has declared the area tax-free, as a result of which companies have launched large smartphone and television factories.
Growth is going so fast here, that it feels like a threat to many people. What, for example, are the consequences for nature in the mountains around it? Should not the biodiversity of Tierra del Fuego be left intact? Charles Darwin studied Man and Animal on Tierra del Fuego and found the principles of his theory of evolution. Can the inhabitants of today adapt to the changes? Or are they stuck in the past? And how bad is that?

The silent drama of photography | Sebastião Salgado
Economics PhD Sebastião Salgado only took up photography in his 30s, but the discipline became an obsession. His years-long projects beautifully capture the human side of a global story that all too often involves death, destruction or decay. Here, he tells a deeply personal story of the craft that nearly killed him, and shows breathtaking images from his latest work, Genesis, which documents the world's forgotten people and places.

Ukraine: divided country by war?
Ukraine is since 2014 trapped in an endless conflict. What happen to Ukraine and has the country been divided by war?
Ukraine is a country on the verge of bankruptcy, that has been ruled by corrupt politicians ever since the fall of the Berlin Wall, and is now torn by a civil war. Does Ukraine even have a right of existence? Or was it, in fact, the war that united the Ukraine people? Jelle talks to refugees, and visits the KGB archives that have recently been opened to the public. We also visit the trenches, where volunteers are risking their lives to defend their country.
In this eight-part travel series the Dutch journalist and author Jelle Brandt Corstius travels through Russia and visits the neighbor countries Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. What image do the Russians have of their neighbors and vice versa? What are the relations between the powerful Russia and the other former Soviet republics? And how do the countries around Russia treat their Russian inhabitants? A series about propaganda and identity.
It´s still unbelievable that Ukraine and Russia are at war. They are brother nations. The Russian empire originates from Ukraine, Kiev, to be precise. Ukraine was called ´the bread basket of the Soviet Union`. Literally the word Ukraine means `at the edge`. Maiden was the place where the revolution or the ´putsch´ started in 2014. The protests that started on Maiden changed the country completely. What started as protests ended into a war. Ukrainians are disillusioned and don’t trust the government anymore. Corstius talks to people on the street and refugees. He tries to find out how they feel about their homeland and a country that is divided and trapped in an endless conflict.
