The district is named after the town of Bhadrak, which is the district headquarters and, according to legend, derives its name from the Goddess Bhadrakali, whose temple is on the banks of the Salandi River.

    The Dhamra Port is a newly developed Port in Bhadrak district, Odisha, India, on the shore of the Bay of Bengal about seven kilometers from the old port of Dhamra. The agreement to develop the port was signed in April 1998. The Dhamra Port Company Limited was formed as a result of a 50:50 joint venture between Larsen & Toubro and TATA Steel to run the port. The Port received its first vessel on 8 February 2010 and the first commercial vessel on 10 April 2011. The Port has an initial capacity of 25 million tonnes annually, eventually growing to 80 million tonnes annually.Greenpeace has opposed the project, claiming it threatens nearby protected areas and endangered species such as the Olive Ridley turtle

Due to its unique circumstances, the beach supports bio-diversity.     Bhitarkanika National Park is the core area of Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary located in the north-east region of Kendrapara district in the state of Odisha in eastern India. It was designated as national park on 16 September 1998 and as a Ramsar site by UNESCO on 19 August 2002. Bhitarkanika National Park is a national park located in the Kendrapara District Odisha in eastern India. Core area of 145 square kilometre of the Bhitarkanika Wild Sanctuary, spread over 672sqkm, has been designated as a National Park since 1998.
The land of lush green mangroves, migrating birds and turtles, the menacing estuarine crocodiles, meandering water courses, tranquil surrounding intercepted by the chirping of birds and the ever embracing nature, entrails visitors from near and far off places to flock these unique places of tourist importance. Scientists, Scholars, Nature Lovers and Tourists have abundant food for thought and exploration. Bhitarkanika represents one of the finest creations ever. The wetland is represented by as many as 3 protected Areas, namely “The Bhitarkanika National Park”, “The Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary” and “The Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary”. Bhitarkanika is a unique habitat of Mangrove Forests criss-crossed with numerous creeks and mud flats located in Kendrapara district of Orissa. One of the largest Mangrove Eco systems in India, Bhitarkanika is home to diverse flora and fauna. This film was created by Goutam Bose (Mobile:08981871893).
