List of cities and towns in Iceland
This is a list of cities and towns in Iceland. Some of Iceland’s larger cities and towns are also self-contained municipalities whose geography and populations are therefore equal. However, most of Iceland’s municipalities, which are semi-autonomous administrative zones, contain several disparate towns or cities, each of whose population contributes to that of its respective municipality.
In addition to Iceland's many independent towns, this article includes cities and towns whose municipalities consist of one, self-contained city of the same name, such as Hafnarfjörður and Akranes. Municipalities that are not also cities or towns, such as Árborg, are not included here, but their constituent towns and cities are. For Árborg, these include the towns of Selfoss, Eyrarbakki, and Stokkseyri.
For more information on the administrative divisions of Iceland, refer to the “Divisions” section of the Iceland infobox on this page.

Unique Iceland: Westfjords
One of the more remote areas in Iceland, the Westfjords are a combination of striking nature and hard-working people. Formerly a region devoted almost exclusively to fisheries; now the resourceful inhabitants engage in various industries like tourism, fish farming, cultural events and more. In fact, the Westfjords are a prime example of a region where nature is the main force in shaping people’s way of life. With formidable mountain landscapes, narrow mountain passes and beautiful fjords, you come to appreciate just how hard-working and resourceful the people here are when you visit the Westfjords.

Natural wonders - Hvitserkur (Iceland)
Natural wonders - Hvitserkur
Hvítserkur is a 15 m high basalt stack along the eastern shore of the Vatnsnes peninsula, in northwest Iceland. The rock has two holes at the base, which give it the appearance of a dragon who is drinking. The base of the stack has been reinforced with concrete to protect its foundations from the sea. Several species of birds, such as gulls and fulmars, live on at Hvítserkur and its name (white shirt in Icelandic) comes from the color of the guano deposited on its rocks.
