Mount Bromo is an active volcano in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park on the island of Java, Indonesia. The view of the volcano sitting inside the 10 km wide Tengger caldera, and Mount Semeru behind, sending smoky clouds up every 20 minutes, is considered one of the most scenic volcano views in the world.
In the video: Sunrise views from the top of the nearby viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan; descending from the Tengger Crater rim and crossing Tengger caldera; views from the crater rim of Mount Bromo.

My Crazy Hike on a Volcano
Today we hike Mount Bromo, a volcano in Indonesia. This was one of the craziest, coolest places I've ever been. At Mt Bromo, you can make your own experience, and hike to get incredible views of the volcano before crossing the sea of sand to hike on the volcano. When you walk around the rim of it, there aren't rails or fences blocking it off, it's just pure true nature. It was one of my best experiences in Indonesia, and if you come to East Java, you have to go to Mount Bromo. (This is a remastered, re-edited video that I made over a year ago..In case you find it familiar)

INSIDE GUNUNG BROMO (ACTIVE VOLCANO) IN EAST JAVA, INDONESIA
On this remarkable adventure I visit Bromo National Park, beginning at Pananjakan sunrise point to soak in the breathtaking views of Bromo and Semeru (Java's highest peak). I then walk along the sea of sand, before climbing up to Bromo's crater, where I look down into the abyss below. I complete my trip by venturing to a gorgeous savannah and special rainbow waterfall.

Lombok & Bromo Volcano! Travel Indonesia!
Traveling through Lombok in Indonesia has been on my list for a while. And although I have been in Indonesia before I only spent about three nights on the island of Lombok, not enough if you ask me. This time I traveled all over the island and finished my trip at the Bromo Volcano on Java. Absolutely stunning parts of Indonesia!
My little brother and I started our Lombok trip in the south, the famous surfing spot Kuta. This very chilled area has some some nice beaches and it’s also a good place for exploring the several other stunning beaches on the south coast, such as Tanjung Aan, Seger Beach, Mawi and Selong Belanak. We loved driving around on a scooter in this beautiful region and enjoying the sun and ocean on these nice sandy beaches.
After relaxing at the beach we decided to travel more up north to Tetebatu. This beautiful green area just south of the Rinjani volcano is surrounded by hundreds of rice fields and is just stunning and very serene. The Indonesian locals who work on the rice fields were so friendly and we enjoyed connecting with them and exploring the region in general. There were pretty much no tourists in the Tetebatu area which added up to the whole experience.
Next we traveled further northeast to Sembalun village. My god, what a beautiful region! Sembalun is situated right from the Rinjani volcano and surrounded by lots of mountains. We hiked up Pergasingan hill which offers spectacular views around the whole area including the Rinjani. We would absolutely recommend going up Pergasingan hill if you like hiking but don’t feel like going all the way up Lombok’s Rinjani. It’s an intens but very doable hike and of course you have a much nicer view of the Rinjani from this place than when you are up on it itself. Flying my DJI Mavic drone around here was so much fun, stunning views of course. Sembalun surprised us in a very positive way!
Our next stop was Senaru, which is known from it’s beautiful waterfall area. The Tiu Kelep waterfall is absolutely breathtaking! In general the waterfall area is quite touristy. But my brother and I arrived at the Tiu Kelep waterfall at the end of the afternoon and after a couple of minutes we were there just by ourselves, which made the experience even better! Damn this waterfall is high and the water was so cold. But what a nice experience! On the east of Senaru we also found this amazingly shaped and huge rice field. I’ve never seen such an impressive rice field, just stunning!
After Senaru we traveled to Senggigi to relax a little bit on the beach and after two days we took the plane from Lombok to Java, Surabaya to be precise. From there we traveled by bus to the Bromo volcano. This volcano had been on my list for a while because I knew the area was impressive. But it definitely blew my mind. On the back of two motorcycles we got dropped at Cemoro Lawang. This is a small village on the edge of a dropdown to the volcano area. I think this is one of the most beautiful and interesting places I’ve seen so far. The village up the hill is so green but the region on the bottom of the dropdown looks like a different planet. Just amazing! It offers stunning views of the Bromo volcano and other mountains such as Batok and Kursi. We climbed up the Bromo which was absolutely spectacular. Flying the drone around here was just too good, I loved it.
My brother and I really enjoyed Lombok and the Bromo area. It wouldn’t surprise us if we would come here again in the future. Because Indonesia is just one of my favourite countries.

BROMO-SEMERU VOLCANIC MASSIF – The Greatest Scenery View in Indonesia
Bromo-Semeru Volcanic Massif is centre piece of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park which is located in East Java, Indonesia, southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. The Park is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea called “The Tengger Sand Sea”.
The Tengger Sand Sea lays inside one of the largest calderas in the World – The Tengger Caldera - which is 10 x 8,5 km in size with average depth over 110 meters. Inside of caldera towers group of four volcanoes Mt. Bromo, Mt. Batok, Mt. Kursi and Mt. Widodaren. Outside of the caldera lays Mt. Semeru (3.676 m) the highest mountain of Java. Both Mt. Bromo and Mt.Semeru are most active volcanoes in the complex with Mt. Bromo’s more than 60 eruptions since 1767.
From the observation point on the South side rim of the caldera there is spectacular view of this unique configuration of four volcanic cones with Mt.Semeru towering in the background. View is considered as most scenic and most photographed view in Indonesia not only because of unique configuration of all five volcanoes but also for other unusual attraction – caldera’s morning fogs – which are created mainly because caldera’s altitude of 2.100 m. Fogy mornings enhance this spectacular view since one can see different scenery configuration almost every single morning.
Morning fog movement in the caldera is demonstrated in the video together with Mt. Semeru post eruption smoke stretching across the top of the mountain.
View of Mt. Bromo crater’s acidic lake was taken in the period of volcano inactivity (volcano is erupting in Strombolian eruption in 5-8 years periods), while Mt. Semeru eruptions are documented in video by post eruption smoke on the top of the mountain. These small eruption occurred during my stay in half an hour periods.
I hope you will enjoy this different yet spectacular video
Cheers
Jiri
