The Garden State is accused of having some of the highest taxes in the country. And being too populated.
A land mostly made up of highways, yet traffic is a constant theme here.
The thing is, though, every place has its own ups and downs. And while Jersey has some pretty nasty ones, it is not short of its fair share of plusses.
Like its enviable location – it is possible to work in New York and live in New Jersey; or spend a Saturday in Philadelphia and be back home for dinner.
New Jersey is a beautiful state with plenty of shore towns and beloved diners.
Its rural farmland is a source of fresh local produce that you’ll find displayed on farm stands, albeit mostly in summer.
It is a beautifully diverse state, and a state famous for high-performing public schools, with one of the highest high school graduation rates in the country.

Burney Falls - Northern California Attractions
California travel expert Veronica Hill of visits McArthur Burney Falls State Park in this episode of California Travel Tips.
This beautiful evergreen forest, located just north of Redding between Lassen Peak and Mt. Shasta in California's lava country, is famous for its 129-foot waterfall, which cascades from Burney Creek down into Lake Britton. The falls are a sacred place for the Pit River Indian Tribe, who have held ceremonial rituals here for thousands of years.
President Theodor Roosevelt called these falls one of the wonders of the world. The year-round falls are formed by melting snow from Burney Mountain, which travels through underground streams before hitting solid rock and flowing back to the surface. Each day, more than 100 million gallons of water plunge over the falls.
While you're here, don't miss the Falls Loop Trail, which is a 1-mile hike to the base of the falls and back up. During the walk, you'll see lava flows and fractured basalt — evidence of the region's turbulent volcanic activity. After descending 100 feet into Burney Canyon, we're rewarded with a cool mist at the base of the falls.
The 20-foot pool is quite popular with fishermen, who regularly pull in rainbow, brook and brown trout. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks are allowed, and the season runs from late April through Nov. 15. Swimming is discouraged in the pool, which maintains a chilly 48 degrees.
As the trail continues uphill, you'll reach the top of the falls and circle back to the visitor center. The cliffs at the edge of the falls are unstable, so be sure to stay behind the fence!
If you want to stay the night, Burney Falls State Park has an excellent campground, with 128 sites, flush restrooms and showers. You can also book one of their 1- or 2-bedroom cabins, which are equipped with fire rings, propane heaters, picnic tables and bunk beds. Just note that there is no electricity, so bring along lanterns and your own bedding. At the Burney Falls General Store, you can stock up on grocery items, souvenirs and snacks.
During your stay, you can rent a canoe, paddle or rowboat for a day on Lake Britton, or head into Lassen Volcanic National Park. The McArthur Burney Falls park Heritage Day is held annually on Columbus Day in October.

North America's legendary wine and food capital The Napa Valley is a collection of small towns and villages.
The Napa Valley is a name derived from the language of the area's native Wappo Indians, and has come to mean land of plenty. Napa has meant a place of natural abundance for centuries—our rivers full of fish, our forests, rolling hills, wildlife, climate, and fertile land for planting crops all combine to make The Napa Valley a place of singular beauty and productivity. The first written description of the land dates to 1823 and was penned by Padre Jose Altimura who estimated that several thousand Wappo Indians inhabited the area. Word quickly spread about the abundance and temperate climate of The Napa Valley and by the late 1840s the area was teeming with quicksilver mines and lumber mills. The region's popularity grew when steamships began traveling from San Francisco to the city of Napa via the Napa River a trip they could make in about three hours. Soon afterwards, the railroad line became available from the ferry terminal at Vallejo on the shores of San Pablo Bay to the city of Calistoga, creating new access to the healing waters of Calistoga's famed hot springs. The Napa Valley has weathered some tough times in its relatively short history. The Valley's once-famed Silverado Mine was exhausted in 1875 after just three years of operation. In 1893 an outbreak of phylloxera, a serious grapevine disease, crippled many of the valley's 140 wineries. Prohibition, enacted in 1920, dealt the final blow to the early wine industry. Only a handful of wineries survived the thirteen years of Prohibition by selling sacramental wines and by selling grapes to home winemakers. Today, however, with vision and perseverance, the industry has greatly surpassed its earlier golden age, and now boasts nearly 400 wineries producing some of the world's finest wines. The Napa Valley continues to be a thriving agricultural area, a characteristic not typical of communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is thanks to a group of concerned citizens who in 1968 had the foresight to create the first Agricultural Preserve in the State, indeed in the entire nation. A land zoning ordinance voted on by a majority of the county's citizens established agriculture and open space as the best use for the land within Napa County. The Ag Preserve, as it is called by locals, has been a model for other areas to follow. In combination with the Napa County Land Trust, more than 438,000 acres within Napa County have been designated as agricultural preserve or watershed protection lands. 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Ag Preserve. The Napa Valley offers new discoveries with each return visit. Enjoy the unique character of each town that dots this 30-mile long Valley, and take time to explore and cherish this land of plenty.

This resort-like estate elegantly unfolds before your eyes as you drive down the street bordered by 100-foot tall Lombardy poplar trees, affectionately called Poplar Lane. You are warmly welcomed by a serpentine driveway leading uphill to a hidden formal entry and motor court, the house nestled into the hillside. Designed and built by a distinguished team of designers and contractors, this property is the masterpiece of two years of careful planning, and uncompromising vision. Seattle Landscape Architect, Brooks Kolb, began the project by working closely with renowned architect, Brandt Hollinger to locate a brand new home on a rare 3-acre site in the heart of Bellevue, Washington. His design retained the native feel of the site, preserving the dense tree cover of Douglas Fir, Vine Maple and Western Red Cedars. He also laid the foundation to perfectly orient the house, doors, windows, and the pool and tennis court to seamlessly maximize the sun exposure. With a goal towards a year-round bloom, he hand picked all of the plants and vegetation and strategically placed them throughout the 3-acre site creating a private, fun, resort-like feel with lots of gathering places. Hollinger, together with Doug Rasar Interiors, understood the owner's desire for a warm, welcoming, and relaxed feel, and created a home that exudes the essence of Ohana - the Hawaiian word for family. His design was inspired from his long-standing admiration of two English architects from the very early 20th century, both notable for their designs of country and manor houses. He used characteristics such as steep but hovering slate-clad hip roofs set atop fairly severe stucco and masonry walls, usually with large continuous groupings of windows, bays and bow windows and prominent chimneys. In addition, he incorporated the use of ornamentation and exuberant moldings and trims, both inside and out, that helped enrich the design, and also served to give the overall structure a scale that the owner could relate to and live comfortably in. He also used hidden elements such as a private front entry shielded from public view and only visible to visitors to the property, and a four-car parking garage that is concealed from the main facade of the house. The organization of the house was based on the clustering of adult/ more formal uses in one wing, and children/more utilitarian uses in the other. He decided to connect them with a hub consisting of a two-story grand entry and family activity spaces- big bold spaces that expressed the largeness of the house. This also gave him the opportunity to draw sunlight into the center of the house all throughout the day.
