Videos taken during my trip to Santiago de Compstela and A Coruña in January of 2010.
Day 18-19 Camino De Santiago. Full Journey foot washing and communal meal at San Nicholas a best
Top rated documented journey showing El Camino De Santiago-Frances.
In this video I include two incredible days. One of my favorites so far. I stayed the night in a historic place that has cared for pilgrims for 1000 years, San Nicolas Hospitalero. It was later turned into a church. It sleeps 12 lucky people and I happened to be one of the 12. Eight countries were represented as we sat around the long table by candlelight with laughter and talking, united in humanity and heart. They performed the ancient ceremony of washing of the feet, to send us the rest of the way to Santiago. It was a warm and very moving day and night there. I will never forget the people I met.
My body is feeling better, stronger, my feet are doing great. As I walk the. Mesata, I love the openness and soft colors. It goes on and on and there is nothing to do but get lost in your thoughts. One man said, he was on this to “get his mind right”. That’s exactly what it does. At the end of the day, my body aches, much like a toothache and headache on my whole body. The endless pounding is so hard, but it wouldn’t be as rewarding if this journey were easy. I, along with everyone else, hobbles into the small villages at the end of the long trek of each day, longing for a warm meal, a hot shower and a soft bed. it’s the little things in life that matter, nothing else. When you break it all down, we are the same, every one of us, where ever we are from. How comforting that is. Thanks for the love, Jeanee-Alaskan Pilgrim.
Day 9 Camino De Santaigo. Full Journey. Estella to Los Arcos. 22K Getting lost and trail Angels.
Top rated documented journey showing El Camino De Santiago-Frances.
In this video I leave Estella in the dark with two friends. Wearing headlamps we follow the yellow arrows and head into the dark forest and winding path with roots and rocks, that opened up into a beautiful sunrise and mountains. When we reached the Irache Monestary - Fuente Del Vino, the fountain that gives wine to pilgrims for strength, was empty... we continued on as the landscape turned into fields and vineyards. The air smelled amazing in the morning with the fresh earth and dew. I even saw some butterflies and heart rocks along the way.
I walked with 3 other girls for awhile and we took a wrong turn, leading us about 30 minutes off the path, when a sweet man in a field, yelled and flagged us down then walked us through his field to the Camino. Amazing.
When I reached Los Arcos and got my Albergue, I wandered and walked through the Portal de Castillo all 13th century Roman origins. I went to the Plaza, the city center, where locals were sitting outside drinking wine and eating tapas enjoying the sunshine. In the city center is the magnificent 13th century Church of St. Mary. I literally lost my breath when I entered. Every single inch was covered in art. Aged patina, carvings, gold, fresco paintings and it goes on and on.
The population of Los Arcos is 1200 and I imagine every member there was baptized, confirmed, married, and the burial ceremony was done here.
The history of this place for pilgrims is very important. A beautiful stop on my way west. My body is sore like a train has hit me in my sleep, but as I start walking, I warm up and feel good. The last few hours, I’m aching again and ready to rest my tired bones.
Thanks for the love, Jeanee - Alaskan Pilgrim
Camino de Santiago, the Way of Saint James
El Camino de Santiago or The Way of St. James, is one of the most important Christian pilgrimages, with Santiago de Compostela in Spain, as the final destination.
The pilgrimage goes to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the apostle Saint James are buried. According to the legend, St. James' body was taken to Galicia by boat from Jerusalem and carried inland to where Santiago de Compostela is now located. The pilgrimage is believed by some to be one of three pilgrimages for which the sins of the pilgrim will be forgiven. There are several routes that can be taken, the most popular being the French Way, which begins in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France.
The walk from the French border to Santiago de Compostela on the main routes of the French Way takes about a month. Speed hikers can make it in as little as two weeks, but that requires walking 40 km or more each day.
While most of the route is fairly gentle with only a few long ascents, some days can be challenging. Over the past 20 years a great deal of effort has gone into improving the walkers' route, and most of the route is now well marked, reasonably well surfaced, and separated from the increasingly heavy traffic on Spanish highways. If one begins in France, the route passes over two major mountain chains and several smaller ones.
One needs to be in reasonably good condition and to have good hiking boots. If you wish to camp, you need to carry clothing and a sleeping bag in a comfortable backpack. But you can stay in hostels for low cost.

Day13-14 Camino De Santiago. Solo female pilgrim. American woman. Empty Nester. Change is coming.
Top rated documented journey showing El Camino De Santiago-Frances.
In this video I go to a place I had read about before I left on this trek. A special stop, a monastery from the 12th century, sleeping in the bell tower and having a communal meal with pilgrims from around the world. It was everything I had hoped it would be. So heartwarming.
The landscape has gone from lush vineyards to dry patches of harvested grain fields. The air is fresh and brisk in the morning. My body is feeling stronger and has a rhythm. I’m feeling better all the time. I’m full of gratitude with every step and the people I meet. Thanks for the love, Jeanee- Alaskan Pilgrim.
