Segesta Sicily is the Doric temple. Segesta was one of the major cities of the Elymians, one of the three indigenous peoples of Sicily. It is located in the northwestern part of Sicily in Italy, near the modern commune of Calatafimi-Segesta in the province of Trapani. The Hellenization of Segesta happened very early and had a profound effect on its people.
Selinunte was an ancient Greek city on the south-western coast of Sicily in Italy. It was situated between the valleys of the Cottone and Modione rivers. The archaeological site contains five temples centered on an acropolis. Of the five temples, only the Temple of Hera, also known as Temple E, has been re-erected. At its peak, before 409 BC the city may have contained up to 30,000 people, excluding slaves.
Catania is the second largest city of Sicily after Palermo located on the east coast facing the Ionian Sea. It is the capital of the Metropolitan City of Catania, one of the ten biggest cities in Italy, and the seventh largest metropolitan area in Italy. Its old town, besides being one of the biggest examples of baroque architecture in Italy, is a World Heritage Site, protected by UNESCO.
Lampedusa is the largest island of the Italian Pelagie Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The commune of Lampedusa e Linosa is part of the Sicilian province of Agrigento which also includes the smaller islands of Linosa and Lampione. It is the southernmost part of Italy and Italy's southernmost island.
Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-¬Roman theater still used today.

Castellammare del Golfo is a town and municipality in the Trapani Province of Sicily. Heading upwards from its marina/harbor called Cala Marina, with many restaurants and bars, the urban plan is made of steps and winding streets that lead to Piazza Petrolo in one direction or towards the main central gardens, where the town center lies with many shops, cafes, and restaurants. The main street is called Corso Garibaldi. Castellammare del Golfo has been described as probably having the most beautiful peninsula in all of Sicily.

Alcamo is the fourth-largest town in the province of Trapani in Sicily, with a population of 45,307 inhabitants. It is on the borderline with the Metropolitan City of Palermo at a distance of about 50 kilometres from Palermo and Trapani. Nowadays the town territory includes an area of 130.79 square kilometres and is the second municipality as for population density in the province of Trapani, after Erice.
Alcamo is bounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the north, Balestrate and Partinico on the east, Camporeale on the south and Calatafimi-Segesta and Castellammare del Golfo on the west. Its most important hamlet is Alcamo Marina at about 6 kilometres from the town centre. Together with other municipalities it takes part in the Associazione Città del Vino, the movement Patto dei Sindaci, Progetto Città dei Bambini, Rete dei Comuni Solidali and Patto Territoriale Golfo di Castellammare.
Alcamo is situated in the middle of the Gulf of Castellammare, at 258 metres above the sea level and at the foot of Mount Bonifato, a calcareous complex 825 metres high. At the altitude of 500 metres (near the Funtanazza) there is the Nature Reserve of Monte Bonifato. The territory of Alcamo includes also Alcamo Marina, mainly used as a summer resort.

Among the areas of naturalistic interest near Alcamo there are the beaches of Alcamo Marina, the Nature Reserve Bosco di Alcamo on Mount Bonifato and the Segestan thermal baths. The hot springs are produced by the reclimbing of water of meteoric origin which meets the water of Fiume Caldo. They are seven kilometres far from Alcamo and next to the boundary with the territory of Castellammare del Golfo, a small town which shares this naturalistic attraction with Alcamo. According to the narration given by Diodorus Siculus, they were created by the nymphs to favour Eracle's rest during his trip from Piloro to Erice.
The surrounding areas include interesting touristic and historical locations like Segesta and Gibellina. The old fishing village of Scopello, 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Alcamo, has been referred to as having a remarkable seaside. Another small town considered worth visiting is Castellammare del Golfo which is between these two places.

Scopello is an Italian place by the sea, in the municipality of Castellammare del Golfo in the province of Trapani. The village rose around a little baglio which is 10 kilometres from Castellammare del Golfo.Its inhabitants are 118, but in summer they become about 2,000. Near it there are the Riserva naturale dello Zingaro (Nature Oriented Reserve lo Zingaro) and Scopello’s stacks with the adjoining tonnara. Its name probably derives from the words stacks or rocks (scopulus in Latin and scopelos in Greek). At few kilometres from the baglio there is Guidaloca, a bay bounded by Pizzo della Gnacara and la Puntazza. Inside it you will find an arc-shaped large beach, formed by pebbles, 400 metres long. West of the “cala”(a bay) there is a cylindrical tower dating back to the 16th century, placed to guard that part of coast..
The first settlement dates back to the Ellenistic Age, then the Roman and Islamic ones. During the Norman periodi it was a Crown property. In the 13th century the emperor Frederick II of Swabia granted Scopello’s land to Oddone de Camerana, a Piedmontese, and to the Lombard kinghts who arrived in Sicily with him. In 1237 Oddone di Camerana and his Lombard kinghts moved to Corleone, and the emperor gave Scopello as a feud to the town Monte San Giuliano (now Erice). The present village dates back to the 17th century and is divided into two parts: a baglio, which is assigned to the Norman period, but dating back to the 18th century, and a small square with the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (Our Lady of Graces), a parish since 1961, together with a few houses. Ferdinand II of Bourbon chose the area of Scopello, with its near wood, as the royal hunting reserve, visiting it twice, in 1830 and 1859. After the unity of Italy, it was bought at very low prices by some members of Mafia of Castellammare del Golfo who had supported the unitary cause and then sold these lands at market price.
As Scopello is a touristic seaside resort, the best period is from April to October, but in winter you can also visit it together with the numerous near attractions such as: Castellammare del Golfo, Calatafimi-Segesta, Alcamo, Riserva naturale dello Zingaro, Erice, San Vito Lo Capo.
The tonnara of Scopello is one of the most important and oldest ones in Sicily: the first buildings date back to the 13th century; the proper tonnara was built in the 15th century by Giovanni Sanclemente and enlarged by the Sanclemente family during the 16th century. Later it passed to the Society of Jesus and finally to the Florio family.

Vita is the home town in Sicily of all of my four grandparents. When I am in Sicily I visit the graves of my great grand parents to pay my respect. I also as the Jews do leave a stone indicating I have visited. This year I also left 5 pine cones indicating the 5 visits over the years I have come to their graves. Too bad it didn't work out with Rosa. Oh, well. Anyway, driving up to Monreale was amazing. There were stunning views of the city of Palermo and the Sicilian coast. You have to go inside the church to see a spectacular cathedral. I continued to the magical site Fermata Segesta. In fact, I found a dirt road and drove around the hill - whether or not this was the correct way - I got a stunning view of the temple complex when I got there. The ancient city belonged to some of the original Sicilian natives, the Elymians. I highly recommend reading about the historical accounts of Segesta. The temple was built in a doric style and there is a Greek theater as well, though not much is known about the city plan. I continued on to Erice. Even though the road was closed, I climbed my way up and the fog set in on the hilltop. Suddenly, I found myself in a medieval fantasy. I could hear the knights' horses hurrying up the cobblestone to the keep. I imagined duels and festivals. The town has plenty of charm, and I explored as much as I could around the castle ruins (Castello di Venere) and the turreted stone cliffs. That night I stopped in Marsala and had the best Veal Marsala I've ever had. Hope you're enjoying my travel videos!
