Visiting the Mexico Border in Calexico, California - S2.E212
We have a lot of excitement packed into this video. Debra arrives early from southeast Arizona to Robert’s camp in the California desert, we explore for a new campsite with a better phone signal, dine at an awesome Mexican restaurant in El Centro, California courtesy of a friend and Patron, and visit the U.S.-Mexico border. This was Robert’s first experience visiting the Mexico border and it was definitely memorable.
*Please do not leave political comments on this video as they are likely to be deleted. This is not a political video. This is a fun video about our experience visiting (though not crossing) the border recently.*

THE WALL BY DRONE
About a year ago, I got permission from US Border Patrol to travel the length of the US-Mexico border from San Diego to the New Mexico border in my car, flying my drone and filming. I secretly think they might have been using me to test new technology to identify drones! Anyway, I filmed and flew and got to know many fine Border Patrol agents. This simplistic demand for a WALL by our current President shows a fundamental ignorance. There already is a wall, for hundreds of miles. There are also open spots and vulnerable spots which could use some patching up. It's time to stop making partisan generalizations and just seeing how things could get done if we all can just get along. Right, Rodney?
St. Joseph Peninsula, best beach in the world
It's easy to see why this park is one of the top rated beaches in the United States. Some of the highest dunes in the nation are here as well as some of the last remaining coastal sand pine scrub (just looked like grasses to us but I am sure it's very important grass). We didn't stay at the park but they do offer camping and had some really nice sites. If you're looking for a relaxing and beautiful getaway, this beach is on our top 10 list!

US 70, US 99 - Holt Blvd East - Pomona and Ontario

Today we traverse Holt Blvd, otherwise known as Historic US 70 and 99, and former BL 10. This road dates to the earliest incarnation of US 99's identity separate from US 66. Later, when US 70 was extended into California, it was co-routed with US 99 through these parts to give the route an East/West running number, as US 99 was technically North/South.
US 99, considered the Main Street of California, originally ran to both international borders with Canada and Mexico. It entered California at Hornbrook, traveling roughly along the route of modern I-5. In Red Bluff, the route split into two for a short time: US 99E and 99W. East followed modern SR 99 and 99W followed modern I-5. They rejoined just north of Sacramento. It then followed modern SR 99 to Bakersfield, where I-5 now picks up the old route. It ran to the East LA Interchange, turning directly east with US 60 and 70. It then made a b-line through the Inland Empire to Indio where it diverted south for it's final alignment to Calexico along modern SR 86 and SR 111.
US 70 has a much less interesting history. Extended into California in the 1930's, it had no identity of it's own. It was co-routed with US 60 through Arizona into California. It picked up US 99 in Indio, and continued to Banning where US 60 split from the multiplex. It continued through the Inland Empire, where it picked up US 60 once again before leaving the IE. It followed modern I-10 to the East LA Interchange, where US 70 officially ended.
