[API Abroad] Hiking Trip to Cáceres!
Big thanks to API Salamanca Resident Director Miguel Blanco for today's vlog! Follow his channel here:
Here you have the video of our hiking trip to Cáceres with our Winter/Spring '19 group.
We walked from Cañamero to Guadalupe (10 miles), a route known as Ruta de Isabel la Católica (as Isabella, the Catholic queen herself walked form Cañamero to Guadalupe several times).
We were hosted in the Guadalupe monastery and filled up our batteries with the typical food from Extremadura.
We also visited Trujillo, one of the most important places in the region!
If you want to study abroad and really immerse in the culture, have authentic experiences while learning/improving Spanish and earning credits, don't wait any longer! Visit our website and ask for further information.
We have all kinds of programs along the whole year.

Spain: Occupy protest on Ministry of Defence farmland reignites
Labourers and union members of Sindicato Andaluz de Trabajadores (SAT) continue to occupy lands in Osuna (Sevilla) asking for the estate known as 'Las Turquillas' to be passed into the hands of the worker co-operatives to provide jobs in a region facing 40% unemployment. Chanting, crisis must be paid by capitalists! and Las Turquillas for the workers, the demonstrators marched through the Ministry of Defence owned fields and roadway under military watch.
Hundreds of people from the countryside of Seville and towns in the Southern Highlands broke into the farming areas with the intention of maintaining a 'permanent occupation' on May 1. The following day an eviction took place by the Civil Guard and was reportedly 'without incident'. A small contingency of activists lead by Juan Manuel Sanchez Gordillo, Spanish politician and labour leader and Fiego Canamero of United Left, remained at the entrance to the lands despite the eviction order. They have now rallied further support and are seeing protesters returning to the site, organising marches, giving speeches and continue fighting for the lands to be passed to the workers for use.
