Engelberg is an alpine town in central Switzerland. In the center is Kloster Engelberg, a 12th-century monastery. Trails weave up Mt. Titlis, and ski runs zigzag down, while revolving Titlis Rotair gondola lift leads to the summit, Titlis Cliff Walk suspension bridge and a glacial park. Trübsee, a glacial lake, lies nearby. Northeast, Rigidalstock mountain's steep face is lined with via ferratas (climbing ladders).
Engelberg (lit.: mountain of angel(s)) is a village resort and a municipality in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland. Besides the village of Engelberg, the municipality also includes the settlements of Grafenort, Obermatt and Schwand.
The municipality of Engelberg is an exclave of Obwalden, surrounded by the cantons of Bern, Nidwalden and Uri. Engelberg has a population (as of 31 December 2016) of 4,134. As of 2007, 21.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals.
Engelberg is a major mountain resort in Central Switzerland. In the Middle Ages, Engelberg was known for the educational quality of its Benedictine monastery, Engelberg Abbey. From the 19th Century onwards Engelberg became internationally known as a mountain resort, but it is today visited as much for skiing as for its Alpine character. With its combination of modern snow and sports facilities and alpine location, Engelberg is popular today for both summer and winter tourism. The nearest large city is Lucerne.
The official language of Engelberg is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.

4K Melchsee-Frutt Obwalden SWITZERLANDアルプス山脈
Melchsee is a lake in the canton of Obwalden, Switzerland. It lends its name to the resort Melchsee-Frutt, in the municipality of Kerns. At an elevation of 1891 m, its surface area is 54 ha.
The location between the Bernese Oberland holiday destination Hasliberg and the central Swiss resort of Engelberg makes the Melchsee-Frutt a popular hiking area. The high altitude hike Hasliberg - Melchsee-Frutt - Engelberg is one of the great hiking classics. Particularly popular is the six-hour four-lake section from Melchsee-Frutt via Tannalp, Engstlenalp, Jochpass and Trübsee to Engelberg. Chairlifts and mountain railways shorten long stretches of the hike.
In summer, the Frutt is a single sea of flowers. The deep blue and trout-rich mountain lakes Melchsee and Tannensee are not only a delight for passionate fishermen.

Scenic Switzerland
About twenty minutes drive from Lucerne is a little market town, the capital of the half-canton of Nidwalden, called Stans. In the main square (Dorfplatz ) of this tiny picturesque old village is the parish church (Pfarrkirche St. Peter und Paul) which, from the Middle Ages onwards, was the sole house of worship in the canton (rebuilt in Baroque style 1641-47). The church remains crowned by a Romanesque bell tower. Inside the church, I listened to the beautiful music played from its exquisite organ. Outside the church is an 1865 fountain dedicated to Arnold von Winkelried, a native of the town, hero of the Battle of Sempach (1386). To the right of the church is a double chapel of 1482 (charnel-house); to the left, above the church, stands the Town Hall (1715) where can be seen an interesting collection of paintings of Swiss cantonal officials. Another notable landmark is the historical museum. The alleys surrounding Dorfplatz are worth a wander. Schmiedgasse to the east is a quiet and atmospheric back alley, while to the west is Altes Postplatz, and the Höfli, or Rosenburg House, a medieval turreted building with a rear courtyard overlooked by beautiful Italianate loggias.
Surrounded by orchards, Stans is a tourist center with a funicular railway to the summit of the beautiful Stanserhorn, the highest peak in the area, rising to 1900m above the village, south of the Lake of Lucerne (Vierwaldensee). This mountain is accessible via one of the oldest mountain railways in Switzerland, the Stanserhornbahn (1893). There is a revolving panorama restaurant (Rondorama) on the top which, from every angle, allows a fantastic view of the breathtaking panorama over 100 km of the Alpine range and ten Swiss lakes. Here, one can easily enjoy the typically Swiss atmosphere, and the wild-flower reserve on top of the Stanserhorn Mountain.
Our hotel, Hotel Hirschen, is located at Seehof in Fluelen, a municipality in the canton of Uri, the farthest point of the lake from Lucerne, a picturesque little place with the train station right beside the landing stage.

The most recently created canton is the Canton of Jura, which separated from the Canton of Bern in 1979.
