Arenenberg Castle - Napoleon Museum
Arenenberg is an estate with a small chateau, Schloss Arenenberg, in the municipality of Salenstein at the shore of Lake Constance in Thurgau, Switzerland that is famous as the final domicile of Hortense de Beauharnais.
While Hortense initially spent time at her house in Augsburg, Arenenberg soon became her main domicile. At her Parisian-styled salon she entertained many luminaries. Her son Louis Napoléon, the future emperor Napoléon III, who had attended school in Augsburg, visited Arenenberg as a teenager; there he was further educated and then attended the Swiss military academy at Thun, receiving Swiss citizenship. In 1837, while he was exiled and living in New York City, Louis Napoleon received notice of his mother's deteriorating health and returned to Arenenberg. Hortense died on 5 October 1837. She was the daughter of Josephine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.
No Smoking in Switzerland ?
Federal CouncilNovember 30, 2018 1:38 pm; Act: 30.11.2018
The purchase of cigarettes should only be allowed from the age of 18
WHO agreement not met
Certain restrictions on advertising were the Bundesrat at the new start still in the consultation, but then deleted it, as it says in the message adopted on Friday. The advertising restrictions now comply with applicable law. The Federal Council acted with consideration for the SVP and the FDP as well as economic organizations.
Switzerland can not ratify the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control because of the lack of restrictions on advertising and sponsorship. This leaves it an exception - 181 countries have ratified the agreement. Ratification, however, remains a goal of the Bundesrat.
Cigarettes only from 18
Cigarettes should be allowed to buy with the new law nationwide only adults. Today, the age limit is 16 or 18 depending on the canton. In three cantons there is no age limit, as the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) writes.
According to the FOPH, more than 2 million people or around a quarter of the population smoke in Switzerland. Around 9500 people die prematurely each year from the effects of tobacco consumption - equivalent to 15 percent of all deaths in the country. The causes of death in these people are respiratory diseases, cancer or cardiovascular diseases.
