Grand Prix Casalgrande Padana finalist architecture firms ninth edition
The ninth edition of the Grand Prix international architecture competition, promoted and held by Casalgrande Padana, saw the participation of over 250 designers, from all over the world, and top-level projects. The turnout was testimony to the growing popularity and appreciation of ceramic materials in the building sector.
The architectural scene emerging clearly in this edition, as well as in the past ones, effectively highlights not only the intrinsic properties of stoneware tiles, but first and foremost their ability to relentlessly evolve in order to cater for different needs and applications in terms of scope, operational techniques and designer's taste. For over 20 years, Grand Prix has followed product and architectural application development processes closely, confirming its international vocation.
The submitted projects were examined and assessed by an international jury, chaired by Franco Manfredini, President of Casalgrande Padana and comprised of

Light is back. Expo 2015 trailer (EN)
iGuzzini present in more than 40 areas and pavilions.
144 countries involved for 184 days with activities that focus on the main theme of “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The Expo is an extraordinary event that has turned Milan into a crossroads of opportunities for companies and a worldwide magnet for institutions, cultural associations, sector aficionados and the public in general.
As Enel Sole's official technical partner for lighting solutions at Expo 2015, iGuzzini has supplied the luminaires for the two main intersecting axes, the central area, the plazas and the pedestrian walkways.
iGuzzini's luminaires have always been at the service of great architects and their works, and once again it will be iGuzzini systems that light up the more artistically architectural pavilions at the Expo. These range from the United Arab Emirates construction designed by Foster + Partners to the Vanke Pavillon for China designed in Daniel Libeskind's highly distinctive style. Just like in the real world, iGuzzini systems range all over this miniature universe, lighting the pavilions of no less than 19 different countries, including Chile, China, France, Germany, Angola, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, and the Vatican, either in the form of complete lighting systems or designs for specific contexts. One particularly special example is the iGuzzini lighting system in the Italian Pavilion. This area, which includes Palazzo Italia, boasts a highly experimental Nemesi & Partners design with a special focus on technological innovation, sustainability, and the know-how of the Italian companies involved: a highly successful combination and a symbol of the vast, contemporary, creative factory that is Italy.
The multifaceted theatre of the Expo does not end with the individual nation pavilions either, and so you can also enjoy iGuzzini's lighting systems in a series of other contexts where its expertise has been called on to enhance the shapes and colours of Italian excellence. To name just a few, there is the Caritas pavilion, the Ferrero pavilion, and the ENEL and Alitalia pavilion. Then there is the RAI Expo Broadcasting Point, the Cascina Triulza, the lighting in various parts of the Children Park, the Nutella space in the Eataly area… and last but not least the lighting at the Expo Gate, the starting line of this splendid world fair.
As it has always sustained socially engaged initiatives, iGuzzini is also extremely happy to be a technical sponsor for the Save the Children Pavilion. This contribution is an important way of supporting Save The Children, as it ensures the organisation's presence at this international eco-friendly event and that worldwide attention will continue to be focused on children's rights and needs. Alongside this, there is also the understated message that a company seeking to create quality lighting for a better life also encourages any action that will create a better life for children.
Adolfo Guzzini, the President of iGuzzini Illuminazione has been chosen as a testimonial for the Italian Marches region at Expo 2015. A decision that points to how the successful combination of Italian business sense and a close relationship with the local area is one of this country's founding values at an international level.
Once again, then, iGuzzini has defined its position by underlining the importance of light and how correct lighting can truly create a better way of life.
A Ripe Volcano ภูเขาไฟพิโรธ (EXCERPT)
Artist: Taiki Sakpisit (ไทกิ ศักดิ์พิสิษฐ์)
Sound Design: Yasuhiro Morinaga
A Ripe Volcano reflects Bangkok as a site of mental eruption and emotionally devastated land during the heights of terrors, primal fears, trauma, and the darkness of time.
A Ripe Volcano revisits The Rattanakosin Hotel, the site where the military troops captured and tortured the civilians, students and protesters who were hiding inside the hotel during the Black May of 1992; and Rajadamnern Stadium, a Roman amphitheatre styled Muay Thai boxing arena, which was built in 1941-45 during the Second World War and since then has become the theatrical labyrinth of physical and mental explosions.
The work builds around the recollections of human experiences that took place within these spaces and shifts through the mental space distilled from the possessed
memory of wounded time.
