Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana, with an estimated urban population of 2.269 million as of 2012. It is also the capital of the Greater Accra Region and of the Accra Metropolitan District, with which it is coterminous. Accra is furthermore the anchor of a larger metropolitan area, the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA), which is inhabited by about 4 million people, making it the second largest metropolitan conglomeration in Ghana by population, and the eleventh-largest metropolitan area in Africa.
Accra stretches along the Ghanaian Atlantic coast and extends north into Ghana's interior. Originally built around a port, it served as the capital of the British Gold Coast between 1877 and 1957. Once merely a 19th-century suburb of Victoriaborg, Accra has since transitioned into a modern metropolis; the city's architecture reflects this history, ranging from 19th-century architecture buildings to modern skyscrapers and apartment blocks.
Accra serves as the Greater Accra region's economic and administrative hub. It is furthermore a centre of a wide range of nightclubs, restaurants and hotels. Since the early 1990s, a number of new buildings have been built, including the multi-storey French-owned Novotel hotel. The city's National Theatre was built with Chinese assistance. In 2010, the GaWC designated Accra a Gamma-minus-level world city, indicating a growing level of international influence and connectedness.
The central business district of Accra contains the city's main banks and department stores, and an area known as the Ministries, where Ghana's government administration is concentrated. Economic activities in Accra include the financial and agricultural sectors, Atlantic fishing, and the manufacture of processed food, lumber, plywood, textiles, clothing and chemicals.

National Museum of Ghana In Accra - Always Closed?
It looks like the museum has been closed for renovations for almost 10 years. The news is that it it will be reopened in a year or so. And that's the news probably ever since it has been closed. We didn't see any construction going on so we assume it will be closed for while!!!
But that doesn't stop guides for taking you around showing you an empty museum. I did like the architecture so we didn't mind paying for a guide. Funny thing is, if you look at Google Reviews, you'll read about people visiting a week ago praising this amazing museum. Haha, I wonder who is reviewing the museum, maybe it's the guides? Hmmm!
The statue park outside of the museum was kind of cool, so we still hope you enjoy the video of the empty National Museum of Ghana in Accra. And if you're curious about our time here, check out our Ghana Travel Blog:

Winneba Aboakyer Festival
#SeeGhana #EatGhana #WearGhana #FeelGhana #VisitGhana
This Festival is celebrated by the people of Simpa or Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana. #2019
The Aboakyer Festival is celebrated by the Efutu of Winneba Traditional area along the Coast of Ghana. It takes place every May in the Coastal town-Winneba.
The Aboakyer festival is a deer hunting event organised in honour of the tribal god of the people of Winneba called “Penkye Otu”. The god receives an annual sacrifice of a deer from the people. The traditional deer hunt celebrates the migration of the local people from Timbuktu hundreds of years ago. The Festival used to involve a human sacrifice being brought to the deity of the town, but has now been replaced with catching and sacrificing of a live deer.
The hunting of the deer is done by the two main Asafo groups.

Eastern Region of Ghana
The Eastern Region of Ghana is a rich blend of dramatic landscapes, historic relics and traditional cultures. The ancient blends with the 21th century in this region so close to but such a contrast with Accra. The region is dominated by Lake Volta, one of the world's largest man-made lakes, and the Akosombo Dam, source of much of Ghana's hydroelectric power. Both are worth a visit. A favourite excursion is the weekend trip to Dodi Islands.Other points of interests are the large area's of lush tropical forest and cascading waterfalls, the diamond mine at Akwatia, botanical gardens at Aburi and the Cocoa Research institute.
