Haystack Rock is a 235-foot sea stack in Cannon Beach, Oregon. It is sometimes claimed locally to be the third-tallest such intertidal structure in the world, but there are no official references to support this. A popular tourist destination, the monolithic rock is adjacent to the beach and accessible by foot at low tide. The Haystack Rock tide pools are home to many intertidal animals, including starfish, sea anemone, crabs, chitons, limpets, and sea slugs. The rock is also a nesting site for many sea birds, including terns and puffins.

The Ecola Point Site is an archeological site associated with the Tillamook people, located in Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Oregon, United States. Several ground depressions at the site have been interpreted by researchers as house pits, indicating the presence of a semipermanent village. Two dense shell middens have preserved extensive faunal remains, along with other artifacts. Radiocarbon dates taken at the site roughly span a period from ca. 1100 CE to ca. 1700 CE. Fort Clatsop was the encampment of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the Oregon Country near the mouth of the Columbia River during the winter of 1805-1806. Located along the Lewis and Clark River at the north end of the Clatsop Plains approximately 5 miles southwest of Astoria, the fort was the last encampment of the Corps of Discovery, before embarking on their return trip east to St. Louis. The Lewis and Clark Expedition wintered at Fort Clatsop before returning east to St. Louis in the spring of 1806. McMenamins -Olympic hotel in Centralia, Washington state.Loved the sound of the trains at night.July 28th 2012 visit.Hope to try other Mcmenamins properties in the future.I popped the mattress of the top bunk bed and laid it flat on the floor for my friend Cynthia..all other rooms were booked..this was a fun experience!!Like going back 70 years in time..hotel also has A movie theatre with beverage and food service,chairs..or couches..we watched Rock of ages..and Haley..you are a wonderfull waitress,sooo friendly!! Sorry about the cheapo's I saw not tipping you...your the best!!

This video series covers the trip from Seattle's King Street Station past south Puget Sound, and crossing the Columbia River to Union Station in Portland, whose name, as mentioned by on board volunteers, was decided upon by a coin-flip. Portland is the largest city in the state of Oregon, while Salem (an hour south of Portland to be seen on the next video on this trip), is the capital city of Oregon.
The series continues with a stop in Eugene, the upper Willamette River, sunset in the Cascade, and an early morning arrival in Sacramento, California's capital city.
Additionally linked videos carry the trip east on Amtrak's California Zephyr through Nevada, Utah,, and the Great Plains, before crossing the Mississippi River into Illinois and, a few hours after, arriving in Chicago.
After yet one more night, Amtrak's The City of New Orleans signature service brings the trip to its destination at, New Orleans, in Louisiana.
