The Train Tracks to and from Paris, France, and Driving to Saint-Denis

These train tracks go to and from Gare du Nord in Paris. The EuroStar and Thalys trains use this station, also, as do SNCF, RER and other commuter trains. Of course, some freight goes through I believe. It is unsightly but necessary.
Saint-Denis was the capital of France before Paris, and is where I live. It is becoming known as Paris Saint-Denis. It has a border contiguous with Paris and its huge district, La Plaine Saint-Denis, was the world's first industrial zone. Saint-Denis also has an island in the River Seine (Ile-Saint-Denis) with its own Mairie (City Hall). L'Hôtel de Ville (the name given to a City Hall for a large city) of Saint-Denis is by the famous basilica, the world's first Gothic cathedral, and is not far from where I live.
There is a canal district on the Canal Saint-Denis, and the city is so huge that since I moved here in 1994, I have not seen it all. It is sort of the Brooklyn of Paris. With a huge and very mixed population, Saitn-Denis is known as La Ville Rouge and is the birthplace of Socialism and Commnism. L'HUMANITE, the French Communist Party newspaper, is still based in Saint-Denis, though not in its original, very beautiful building, which now stands empty, an artistic, modern white elephant.
In another clipmade on this day by me, you can see the Basilica in the distance. It once had a high bell tower known as La Flêche, or the Arrow, a landmark for miles around. The Basilica and the city were the number one place of Christian pilgrimage in all of France for more than 1,000 years. You can get to the central part of Saint-Denis on the 13 métro from Paris, but be careful to take the trains to Saint-Denis, as the line splits North of Place Clichy at La Fourche.
The biggest and possibly the best market in all of Europe is in Saint-Denis every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning. Do not fail to attend Mass in the Basilica at 10 am on Sunday -- perhaps you will hear the rare pipe organ play (and not just one of the two rather mediocre ones they have in there). No one does church like the French, and there is a museum in the back and the Necropole of the Kings.
