Futuroscope 2016
(This video unavailable on mobile devices, sorry, soundtrack owner doesn't allow).
We visit Futuroscope theme park, near Poitiers in France. May 2016.
Futuroscope, as the name suggests, features many buildings housing a large number of cinema, IMAX, 3D, 4D, 4DIMAX, planetarium, and simulator type attractions. There is an obvious futuristic theme with the architecture and design throughout the park.
Danse Avec Les Robots is a Kuka robot-arm ride, 12 of them actually as featured on another video, please visit channel and subscribe!
There is also a gyro observation tower, a number of self-operated rides from manufacturers Heege, and the Aerobar, among the many other attractions.
At night in the central arena overlooking the lake, there is a spectacular show, which is performed in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, and includes many special effects, lights, lasers, fountains, fire, and a Citroen 2CV driving on water!
I first visited Futuroscope in 1987, its inaugural year, while on an exchange programme with a French student from Angoulême I spent the following three summers with, Stephane DeVille. 'Combien de Temps' by Stephane Eicher was a hit in France that summer and so became the soundtrack for my visit back then, and again in 2016.

Heege Self-Operated Rides @ Futuroscope
(This video not available on some portable devices).
Heege are a German manufacturer of 'self operating rides', found at a number of recreational parks & theme parks, across Germany and neighbouring countries.
There are a number of rides in the Heege catalogue, in this video we take a look at the 3 most popular;
The Nautic Jet is a water-chute type ride, during which riders are dropped down a slope in a small boat, off a ramp, and are launched through the air to land in a pool of water!
The Butterfly is a simple back & forth mini-roller coaster, and the Loopy is a spinning ride whereby riders control which direction they loop, while circumnavigating a small track.
You can also see in this video the 'Sky Dive', a forward & reversing zip-wire ride which uses a cable attached to 1 fixed height pole, and one pole which moves up and down; riders start the ride at the moving pole in its 'low' position near the loading area. After pressing the button, the pole rises, and as it does so the rider begins to slide along the zip wire, once they reach the fixed pole at the other end, the moving pole lowers, and our rider zips back to where they began!
Also in the background look out for the 'Tower', whereby guests pull themselves up a rope (with some technical assistance) attached to a slowly rotating tower. When they reach the top the 'assistance' is switched off and there's a drop back down to earth.
ALL the rides described above are usually found without staff. The design of each attraction enables riders to secure themselves, and most require another person (usually the next in line) to close a gate and press a button, which lets the machinery know the ride is secure and ready to go. The rider then initiates the ride by pulling a string, or pressing another button within reach of the loading area.
Filmed here at Futuroscope, in France.
