It was the principal residence of the reigning Prince of Commercy and was built by Charles Henri de Lorraine. Fort Douaumont was the largest and highest fort on the ring of 19 large defensive works which had protected the city of Verdun, France since the 1890s. By 1915, the French General Staff had concluded that even the best-protected forts of Verdun could not resist bombardments from the German 420 mm Gamma guns. These new super-heavy howitzers had easily taken several large Belgian forts out of action in August 1914. Fort Douaumont and other Verdun forts were judged ineffective and had been partly disarmed and left virtually undefended since 1915. On 25 February 1916, Fort Douaumont was entered and occupied without a fight by a small German raiding party comprising only 19 officers and 79 men. Just over 100 years ago, the First World War was raging in North Eastern France along the line known as the Western Front. Lorraine, Meuse and Verdun found themselves located on the front line. This video, highlighting the role of America in the conflict and the memorials dedicated to US Soldiers in France, is an introduction to the WWI series « Travels with Darley » by Darley Newman for PBS channel. It presents the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery, the largest WW1 American Cemetery in Europe.

Château de Lunéville, Lorraine France

The Château de Lunéville which had belonged to the Dukes of Lorraine since the thirteenth century, was rebuilt as “the Versailles of Lorraine” by Duke Léopold from 1703 to 1723, from designs of Pierre Bourdict and Nicolas Dorbay and then of the architect Germain Boffrand, whose masterwork it became.

Lunéville was classified a Monument historique in 1901 and by successive ordinances its princely apartments are looked after by the Ministry of Defense while the structure is the responsibility of the Conseil Général de Meurthe-et-Moselle.

История Gumball 3000 началась в 1999 году, когда англичанин Максимиллиан Купер (Maximillion Cooper), сын барабанщика из группы The Who и внук директора Gugies (компания по производству шин) , решил воплотить в жизнь фильм о знаменитых гонках 70-х Gumball, воспетым в фильме Гонка Пушечное ядро. Тогда-то Максимиллиан пригласил полсотни своих друзей, чтобы с ветерком прокатиться по Европе. Друзья у Макса оказались еще те: Клаудиа Шиффер, Наоми Кэмпбелл, Джейсон Пристли, Дэнни и Кайли Миноуг, Чарльз Морган и др. Подобно сценарию фильма, идейный вдохновитель гонок спланировал маршрут так, чтобы расстояние составило ровно 3000 миль.

ISLANDE DE GLACE et de FEU

Ce diaporama est composé de photos prises en 2012, lors d'un voyage en Islande, je suis partie en avion avec un vol low cost, et j'ai parcouru ce pays merveilleux avec mon sac à dos, en utilisant les bus qui le sillonnent j'y est retrouvé mes amis. Tous ces paysages sont gravés dans ma mémoire, que démotions devant la puissance, la beauté et la pureté des éléments.
La distance qui nous sépare du monde subtil semble ici s'effacer.
La vie est partout, dans le cœur de ses volcans, recouverts de leurs glaciers pour calmer le feu qui les anime, dans ces cascades majestueuses qui charrient dans un grondement d'une puissance inouïe l'eau de la fonte des glaces, dans les fumerolles, dans ces geysers qui explosent en larmes brûlantes, et cette odeur de soufre qui vous envahit...
La nature y est en perpétuelle création.
Je tenais à remercier de tout cœur Est motorcycles qui a dynamisé ce voyage.
