A Busy Day of Travel and Photography in Scotland
Lots of travel and photography in Scotland on this episode of the vlog.
Check my work out on IG at @brendanvanson.
This Scotland trip is cruising by way too quickly. But, it is a video assignment based on shooting moments. And, as you know, moments don't last all that long. So, I'm trying to make the most of the quick assignment by getting as much out of it as possible.
Photography in Scotland is a joy basically any time of day. But, obviously, I wish I could be out shooting around sunrise or sunset more on this trip. But, I'm running around like crazy a bit.
In the morning, I went to a place for a seafari just outside of the town of Oban. It was a blast.
Wildlife photography is always fun, and it is always good to get out on a boat and do some exploring too. The zodiac trip was awesome. And, I did get a couple interesting shots even if it was the middle of the day.
Later in the day, I had another one of my Scotland travel moments which was a visit to the Glengoyne Whisky Distillery. The tour of Glengoyne was really fun; especially because it involved chocolate and whisky. I mean, what's not to like about that. It was cool, but I was late arriving and the tour ran a bit late too. So, I was pressed for time getting to my photography location.
My photography location in Scotland today was The Kelpies. It's a really cool location in between Glasgow and Edinburgh. I did, unfortunately, get there a bit late, though. I managed to get one shot of The Kelpies before the blue hour ended. But, I would have liked a little more time for photography and to get my video project sorted as well.
Tomorrow, I'm already going to be done this project in Scotland. It's been a bit of a whirl-wind trip, but it's again reminded me that I need to spent more time in this area. Scotland is just a photographer's dream.
Tomorrow's vlog I'll be leaving Scotland and making my way off to Canada.

Thomas Heaton is someone who I've been wanting to collaborate with for ages. I love his YouTube videos, and he's one of the photography vlogs I faithfully follow. So, I was excited at the opportunity to team up for a hiking, wild camping, and landscape photography adventure in The Lake District with him.
It was also cool to head off and photograph a location here in England that's so familiar to him. It's really great to be guided around, as a photographer, rather than spending hours searching around and location scouting.
We started our wild camping and photography adventure without much of a plan. We knew that we wanted to hike up to some cool views in the Lake District, but we didn't know for sure where we wanted to go. The weather changes so quickly and varies from valley to valley, so your really have to play things by ear. I really trusted Thomas Heaton's local knowledge and insticts.
Eventually, we went up a cool lake (tarn) called Sprinkling Tarn. It's a cool spot, because it was actually the location of the first ever Thomas Heaton vlog.
You can see that first photography vlog here:
The location is really cool, and an epic spot for some landscape photography. And, the light looked like it was going to be really amazing as well. For a minute, it was. Then, as quick as it popped, the light disappeared.
But, even with no perfect sunset, we decided to have some fun. So, I had a race to set up my tent against Thomas Heaton. It was close, and he called it a draw. But, the reality is that he did beat me by a second or two.
Our wild camping spot up in the Lake District was just epic. Such a perfect location to spend the night, and I'm totally appreciative of Thomas for taking me up to that spot.
I ended this photography vlog with a little bit of a chat talking about how nice it is to meet one of the YouTubers your really respect and admire to find out that they're exactly as genuine as they seem on their vlog.
Thomas Heaton is exactly as he appears on his videos. He's totally in love with landscape photography and has a great passion for what he does. It's refreshing to see that.
Tomorrow, we're off on another hike here in the Lake District. The morning we get some insane light for landscape photography. Be sure to come back and check it out.
LULLINGSTONE inside a real ROMAN Villa VIEWS AND CURRENT PRICING
LULLINGSTONE ROMAN VILLA ENGLISH HERITAGE SITE IPHONE VIEWS AND CURRENT PRICING , SHOT ON MY PHONE AS KIFORGOT MY CAMERA !! ENJOY TRACEY.
Thanks to English Heritage, for the great displays, story video and the upkeep of these great historic places.
Lullingstone Roman Villa is a villa built during the Roman occupation of Britain, situated near the village of Eynsford in Kent, south eastern England. Constructed in the 1st century, perhaps around A. D. 80-90, the house was repeatedly expanded and occupied until it was destroyed by fire in the 5th century. The occupants were wealthy Romans or native Britons who had adopted Roman customs.
Evidence found on site suggests that about A. D. 150, the villa was considerably enlarged and may have been used as the country retreat of the governors of the Roman province of Britannia. Two sculpted marble busts found in the cellar may be those of Pertinax, governor in 185-186, and his father-in-law, Publius Helvius Successus.
In the Saxon period, the ruins of a Roman temple-mausoleum on the site of the villa were incorporated into a Christian chapel (Lullingstone Chapel) that was extant at the time of the Norman Conquest, one of the earliest known chapels in the country.
The villa is located in the Darent Valley, along with six others, including those at Crofton, Crayford & Dartford.

Heading Underground at 'The Great Cwmystwyth Mines' in Wales
Photographers Andy T and Carl Lewis explore the subterrainain, 19th century Level Fawr of the Cwmystwyth mine.
High up in the Cambrian Mountains, the young Afon Ystwyth flows through a deep glacial valley.
Cwm Ystwyth is considered the most important non-ferrous metal mining site in Wales providing a premier example of mining heritage in Ceredigion. Within the site there is evidence for all phases of mining activity; from the Bronze Age, through the medieval period, to its revival in the 18th century and the peak of activity with a subsequent decline in the late 19th and the early 20th century. It has been designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.[1] The site also features prominently in the Upland Ceredigion Landscape of Historic Interest.
Our trip was prepared for a planned and we took all suitable precautions to protect our safety.
Please see the following website for more information on the dangers of exploration and how to reduce risk:
Please ensure of you are both prepared and have permission before entering any mine of cave. This video should not be taken as fact and is for entertainment purposes only. Mines or caves can change overnight. This video was taken in January 2014.
Stay safe and enjoy.
