Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world though it's comparably tiny. Beside the Galapagos Islands (which is the #1 tourist destination in Ecuador) the country has a lot more to offer, therefore I focussed on La Sierra in this video which is a paradise for landscape lovers and outdoor adventurers.
Another reason to visit the Andean region is that you have the chance to dive into the local culture and get a real feeling of Ecuador. The places to see in Ecuador I focussed on in this short video are the result of my own travels along the center from north to south and are easily doable in 2 weeks time.
Things to do in Ecuador covered in this video:
01) 00:36 - Otavalo market in Otavalo
02) 01:00 - Hike the Cuicocha lake
03) 01:25 - Middle of the World, Mitad del Mundo & Quitsato in Cayambe
04) 01:48 - Quito, capital & UNESCO World Heritage
05) 02:08 - Termas de Papallacta (hot springs)
06) 02:24 - Cayambe Coca National Park
07) 02:45 - Quilotoa & Shalala viewpoint
08) 03:13 - Tren Crucero & Nariz del Diablo (Devil's nose)
09) 03:47 - Inka ruins in Ingapirca
10) 04:04 - Cuenca & it's beautiful old town

A Sunday Stroll in Cotacachi, Ecuador
The small leather craft village of Cotacachi, Ecuador, is 8,000 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains, yet its location on the equator makes the weather there ideal all year-round. On a typical Sunday, Cotacachi is bustling with activity, and there is much to see and do.
We visit the main square—anchored, as in many Latin American communities—by the main church, Iglesia Matriz.
The bus station is always a hub of activity…it’s the way most of the farmers, shoppers, and traders from the outlying communities near Cotacachi get back and forth to market.
Speaking of markets, Sunday is market day in Cotacachi, and we take a look inside the mercado to see the fruits, vegetables, potatoes, beans, onions, and other produce on offer. This is a regular stop for locals and the expats who live in and around Cotacachi.
(The expat community in Cotacachi is strong and growing, with several hundred U.S., Canadian, and other expats calling Cotacachi home full- or part-time. They are an active community that volunteers in local schools, animal rescue organizations, food banks, soup kitchens, and many other community-service projects.)

Cuenca Ecuador | Considered One of the Best Places to Retire! | 80+ Countries w/3 kids
Join us for a tour of Cuenca Ecuador!!!
If you want to find cultural richness in Ecuador, there is no better place to visit than Cuenca. UNESCO designated the city Cultural Patrimony of Humanity on December 1, 1999, and later in July 2001, Cuenca received the title of the Cultural Capital of the Americas for the year 2002.
Parque Calderón is Cuenca’s central plaza and the spot around which city life revolves. The impressive New Cathedral, with its massive blue domes, dominates the square. On the opposite side, stands the proud Old Cathedral which dates back to 1557 when the city was founded.
Another interesting thing to check out here is Panama Hat Factory. Would you ever guess that Panama hats are not made in Panama? Well, it’ true, they are made here, in Ecuador! The factory on Avenida Gil Ramírez Dávalos, near the bus station, crafts some of Ecuador’s finest hats.
Enjoy the video and let us know which country you're watching from!

My Ecuador Trip- Quito Old Town, Equator and the Simple Life in a Small Village
Tara goes to South America for the first time and experiences some strange things on the equator! She also visits her cousin living in a tiny village. Tara learns how to milk a cow, feed animals on a farm, pick plants and fruit, and visits the village school to give the kids some gifts. Four days without a phone, internet, car, TV and hot water! It was an amazing experience!
