Places to see in ( Nancy - France ) Place Stanislas
Places to see in ( Nancy - France ) Place Stanislas
The Place Stanislas is a large pedestrianised square in the French city of Nancy, in the Lorraine region. Since 1983, the architectural ensemble comprising the Place Stanislas, the extension of its axis, the Place de la Carrière, and the Place d'Alliance, has been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The square was a major project in urban planning, conceived by Stanisław I as a way to link the medieval old town of Nancy and the new town built in the 17th century under Charles III, Duke of Lorraine. The square was also intended as a place royale to honour Stanisław's son-in-law, Louis XV. The design created a large urban square or place that linked two handsome existing buildings: the Hôtel de Ville (city hall, now centred on its grand square) and the Hôtel du Gouvernement, the seat of the duchy. The seat of city government and the seat of Ducal government thus faced each other as complements through a series of rational, symmetrical but varied urban spaces, unequalled in Europe at the time.
In 1831, a bronze statue of Stanisław (Stanislas in French) was placed in the middle of the square; since then it has been known as the 'Place Stanislas'. The square has always been used for public assemblies and festivities. It has undergone several makeovers in its history and, in a low period of appreciation, served as a car parking area for nearly a quarter of a century, between 1958 and 1983.
The city has since reserved it for pedestrian use. In 2004 and 2005, the city undertook a massive restoration of the square, based on the original 18th-century plans. The ten-month project cost approximately 9 million euros. It was financed by a combination of city and local, regional, national and private funds. The inauguration of the new Place Stanislas, in May 2005, coincided with the square's 250th anniversary.
The Place Stanislas is 125 metre long and 106 metre wide. It is paved with light ochre stones, with two lines of darker stones forming a diagonal cross motif. The square is surrounded by an architecturally harmonious ensemble of buildings, most notably these:
The City Hall (Hôtel de Ville) of Nancy, which occupies the entire south side of the square, with the prefectural office of Meurthe-et-Moselle at the south-east corner
To the east, the Opera house (formerly the Bishop's Palace) and the Grand Hôtel (originally the Hôtel de la Reine, actually occupied by the Intendant Alliot)
To the west, the Fine Arts Museum (originally the Collège de médecine) and the Pavillon Jacquet (originally a commercial/residential building, now mostly offices)
On the north side, the buildings were kept lower for defensive purposes (to permit crossfire between the Vaudemont and the Haussonville bastions).
An arc de triomphe, by Emmanuel Héré, stands in the centre of the fourth side, leading to the adjoining Place de la Carrière, where the main axis is developed as a double avenue of trees, with symmetrical buildings facing each other down its length.
The far end is defined by the hemi-cycles of colonnades that enclose the sides and are carried across the pre-existing façade of the Palais du Gouvernement.
The four corners and the west and east sides of the square feature gilded wrought iron gates and lanterns, created by Jean Lamour (1698–1771); who was also responsible for the wrought iron balustrade on the main staircase in the Hôtel de Ville

The Nancy Town Hall is the tallest building on Place Stanislas . It was built from 1752 to 1755 under the direction of Emmanuel Héré. On the pediment, you can find the coat of arms of the city of Nancy. The coat of arms of Stanislas Leszczynski's family is visible on the balcony of honor of the building.
The central clock is surrounded by two statues, representing justice and prudence. Under this clock, we can see the symbol of the city of Nancy, a girl holding a thistle. Since 1886, the Town Hall is classified as a historical monument.
The large facade of the Town Hall, which is decorated with the arms of Stanislas and the coat of arms of the City of Nancy, closes Place Stanislas. Three forequarters punctuate this facade which includes three levels of elevation. The ground floor is pierced by semicircular openings, a molded band separates it from the other two levels of elevation embraced by a colossal order Corinthian.
On a balustrade, are arranged alternately groups of children and pots to fire and weapon trophies at the corners.
The doors open onto a peristyle that leads to the main staircase adorned with a wrought iron ramp in one piece, a true masterpiece of Jean Lamour. The staircase, whose walls are adorned with frescoes by Girardet, leads to the Salon Carre, an Italian salon, which was the antechamber of the royal apartments.

Places to see in ( Bordeaux - France ) Jardin Public
The Jardin Public combines the famous honey-coloured stone of stately 18th century buildings with a relaxed setting in which a pond is surrounded by centuries-old trees. The garden is much appreciated by people who enjoy a leisurely walk, joggers, children, and grandparents, who coexist with swans and ducks in complete harmony.
The Jardin Public has been dear to the hearts of the Bordelais since its creation in 1746. A veritable green lung in the city centre, the 11 hectares of grass, trees, flowers, and plants also include a children's playground and the famous Guignol Guérin, puppet show.
Framed by lovely townhouses, and including a Natural History Museum, a small botanical garden, and a bar-restaurant L’Orangerie, the Jardin Public has been classified as Jardin Remarquable de France.
The original garden was designed by Jacques Ange Gabriel in a typical French style. It covers 14 hectares and is focused around a central pond. Today its landscaped gardens are a lovely escape from the city. It houses an arboretum, a library and a museum of natural history. Many attractions are available for children: puppet theater, swings, playgrounds, historic carousel.

BORDEAUX - Public Garden aka Jardin Public in Autumn / Fall in France (November). Walk to the Public Garden of Bordeaux embellished by the colors of Autumn in November.
#Bordeaux #jardinpublic #publicgarden
The creation of the Public Garden of Bordeaux was decided in 1746 on the initiative of the intendant Tourny, on a ground occupied by bad vineyards and some gardening in limit of the city. It is inscribed Historic Monument on October 8, 1935.
In 1856, the municipal council, led by Mayor Antoine Gautier, entrusted its redevelopment to the landscape architect LB Fischer, who created an English park (romantic style) with its lawns, winding alleys and its dotted pool of water. 'he is. Gateways (Fischer and Escarpit) are installed the width of the crinoline. The architect of the operation is Charles Burguet, architect of the city of Bordeaux from 1850 to 1879, he remade the terrace and implants a basin, the grids of the garden are remelted. Statues are placed on the esplanade of Burguet: Diane (Gabies), Youth and Chimera (Granet), Maxime Lalanne (a Bordeaux aquafortist), Rosa Bonheur (animal painter) by Gaston Veuvenot Leroux and many statues are present in the garden.
