The Patee House, also known as Patee House Museum, was completed in 1858 as a 140-room luxury hotel at 12th Street and Penn in St. Joseph, Missouri. It was one of the best-known hotels west of the Mississippi River.The Patee House was built by John Patée as part of his Patee Town development around the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad station. Office space included the headquarters and eastern terminus of the Pony Express, founded in 1860 to provide fast overland mail service to the West Coast. During the American Civil War, the Union Army Provost Marshal's office was located in Patee House. The Army conducted war trials in the second floor ballroom. Scenic drive from Miami to Key West, Florida, USA

We decided to take a day trip down to the southernmost point in mainland United States, Key West.

The drive takes you along Highway 1 Overseas Highway and passes through some 40+ islands before reaching Key West. Journey time from Miami to Key West is approximately 4 hours, but you pass through some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.

The Overseas Highway is a single lane Highway which passes over on one side, the Atlantic Ocean and on the other side, the Gulf of Mexico.

You basically cross from Mainland Florida and into the Caribbean without flying and the transition happens within minutes of starting the journey over the Overseas Highway. You see the sea turn all different shades of blue and all the way to an emerald colour.

This is the full journey from the Florida Turnpike all the way to Duval Street in the centre of Key West.

Florida Keys: Overseas Hywy & 7 Mile Bridge Aerial

Aerial of the Florida Keys featuring the Overseas Highway and the Seven Mile Bridge. We follow the Highway 1 with aerial footage from Islamorada to Marathon Florida. The original roadway from the Mainland to Key West opened in 1928 as State Road 4A, however there was a 41 mile gap from Lower Matecumbe and No Name Keys. When the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 destroyed parts fo the Overseas Railroad, the bridges where retrofitted with concrete for vehicular traffice. In 1938 the highway opened as Route 1 and finally connected Key West with the Mainland.

The Seven Mile bridge is actually 6.79 miles and opened in 1982. The old bridge is now used for pedestrian and bicyclist traffic. In 2014 the Florida Department of Transportation approved a $77 Million plan to restore the old bridge.

We used the new X-Star Premium drone for this. We have done reviews on the picture quality which is much better than the Phantom . but this video was impressed with how it dealt with wind. At times we had very strong gusts of wind, probably about 25mph, and it the drone still remained very steady, and even against the wind was still able to maintain about 7-10mph.
