The Falls Creek Alpine Resort is an alpine ski resort in the Hume region in northeastern Victoria, Australia. It is located in the Alpine National Park in the Victorian Alps, approximately 350 kilometres by road from Melbourne, with the nearest town Mount Beauty, approximately 30 km away. The resort lies between an elevation of 1,210 and 1,830 m above sea level, with the highest lifted point at 1,780 m . Skiing is possible on the nearby peak of Mount McKay at 1,842 m , accessed by snowcat from the resort.

Perisher is the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere. Located in the Australian Snowy Mountains, the resort is an amalgamation of four villages and their associated ski fields, covering approximately 12 square kilometres , with the base elevation at 1,720 metres AHD, and the summit elevation of 2,054 metres at the top of Mount Perisher. 4.4 square kilometres of this area is covered by 240 snow guns, which are used to artificially supplement the natural snowfall. Perisher was acquired by Vail Resorts, United States on March 30, 2015 for a sum of approximately AU$177 million. Jindabyne Dam is a major ungated rockfill embankment dam across the Snowy River in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. The dam's main purpose is for the generation of hydro-power and is one of the sixteen major dams that comprise the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a vast hydroelectricity and irrigation complex constructed in south-east Australia between 1949 and 1974 and now run by Snowy Hydro. The impounded reservoir is called Lake Jindabyne.

Once South Australia's busiest regional railway hub employing more than 1,000 people who looked after more than 100 passing trains every day, the old depot and workshop is now home to Australia's most unique and fascinating Heritage Railway museum.

You'll find Australia's only operational triple gauge turntable, a wide range of historic rolling stock including elegant steam trains, powerful diesel locomotives, unique passenger trains and freight trains, all exhibited in original settings in the heritage listed roundhouse and original work sheds.

After dark, Steamtown hosts South Australia's only Sound and Light Show, a fabulous sound and visual spectacular about railway history in Australia and Peterborough. Guests sit comfortably in a historic railway carriage, once a first class sleeper on the East West route between Sydney and Perth, and are transported visually through a 1.5 hour sound and light show that you will thoroughly enjoy. Bookings essential.

DAY TOUR
Personally guided tours take place daily between 9.00am and 5.00pm, the last tours starting at 3:30 pm. Group bookings should be arranged ahead of time. The tour takes approximately 1.5 hours and gives you an amazing insight into historic locomotives, carriages and other interesting freight vehicles.

You'll be transported back to the glamorous 1920's when train travel was the most elegant way to get around - passengers settling themselves into a First Class Lounge car, sipping a long, cool drink while entertained by the on board pianist. As you sink into the warmth of the red leather armchairs, you'll understand why First Class train travel is still highly regarded as a superior way to travel.

Then you could sit in the cabin of one of the powerhouse steam locomotives, where men would shovel coal and sweat in the intense heat to keep the fires burning and the wheels turning.

Somewhere further along, you'll visit the baby health car, a child health centre on train tracks that visited rural South Australia to help mothers and children in remote farms and settlements.

When the sun goes down over Peterborough, the Sound and Light Show gets going at the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre!

You will sit comfortably in a restored 1916 historic rail carriage which is placed on an 85 food long, 3 gauge turntable. Over 1 hour, you will move through the tunnels of time, to learn about Peterborough, about railways in South Australia and about the many fascinating personal stories associated with it.

Cycling High Country Rail Trail 2015

Cycling High Country Rail Trail 2015 is a 4-minute 720p hi-def video showing an enjoyable 40km bike ride from Wodonga to Tallangatta by Andrew and Trevor on Monday 30th March 2015. We began the day with a car shuffle to leave a car at Tallangatta and then from the water tower at Wodonga, we rode on our hybrid bikes to Kangaroo General Store at Bonegilla for morning tea.
Then passing many attractions, admiring great scenery beside Lake Hume, and after crossing the 600 metre long Sandy Creek Bridge, we eventually arrived at Tallangatta where we had a late lunch at Mj's Bakery. We enjoyed great weather, but November could be a better time as more water would be in Lake Hume.

Texan Landing at Khancoban

Khancoban, NSW is a picturesque small town on the Western slopes of the Snowy Mountains near the Victoria/NSW border and Corryong. The airstrip is a 1500m grass/sealed strip which lies below the Khancoban Pondage spillway wall. Permission is required to use the strip. The township is only a short 10 minute walk from the strip where there is accommodation and places to eat if planning a visit.
