Live the Life You Choose in Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure, NC:
BHTV: Incredible Views of Chimney Rock State Park:
“This was the main trade route between Charlotte and Asheville,” says Jim Proctor, former mayor of Lake Lure, NC. “And not only was this a trade route, it was very early on a tourist location. So, this was a place that travelers came to visit not just because it was a waystation, but because it was a great place to stay. And then around the turn of the last century, Lucius Morse came to visit, and he and his family are the folks that bought Chimney Rock Park at that time, and had the vision for Lake Lure. So in the mid-1920s, they ended up buying over 8,000 acres, and 720 acres ended up being what's now Lake Lure.”
“We bought the house as a vacation home. But then, we enjoyed it so much that we decided to move up here full-time,” says John Moore, Lake Lure resident.
“If you've traveled in European countries, and you've been on rivers and huge lakes in Geneva, Switzerland, you see these mountains rising up out of the water, and I think that that is what we have in Lake Lure,” says Paula Moore. “It's like a little piece of Europe right here in the United States, and we feel like we live on vacation, and that is one of the pluses.”
“Now, Lake Lure has just magnificent mountains, the rock cliffs, every kind of vegetation you can dream of, and of course, that's why a lot of folks come and why a lot of movies have been filmed here,” says Proctor. “Dirty Dancing was filmed right down the road, at what used to be Camp Chimney Rock. That was really fun. And then, of course, several years later, The Last of the Mohicans was filmed at Chimney Rock up the hill.”
“We love living around the lake, have a lot of friends who live here, spend time with them,” says Mr. Moore. “We can get to their houses by boat. We can get to the restaurants, to Larkin's and the restaurants downtown by boat, or the restaurants up at the resort.”
“There was an opportunity here in Lake Lure to live on the lake and run a restaurant that's also on the lake, that has its own boat docks, and we've been here, now, 15 years, and we still often commute to our restaurant by boat. Sometimes I even water ski to work,” says Mark Hammond, owner of Larkin’s Restaurant.
“Even when you consider, when I was growing up, there was probably 200 residents, and now there's 1,200, Lake Lure still doesn't have a signal light,” says Proctor. “We have one grocery store, one pharmacy. All the scenic beauty that was here when I was little is still here. It's remarkable that the mountain ranges are still just as scenic now as when I was growing up. The mountains that are literally surrounding this house, the vast majority of those mountains are now protected forever, and that's just real exciting for me.”

Recently stayed at this Tiny House during our trip to the Smoky Mountains. Tammy and Sam, the property owners, were extremely welcoming and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get away.
Tiny Fox is a rustic experience in a great location. Located in Cosby/Newport Tennessee approximately 35-40 minutes from Gatlinburg.
This type of “Tiny Cabin” of less than 300 sqft is debuting across the United States providing a primitive experience with comfort at an affordable rental rate. Perched among the trees overlooking a crisp mountain stream and swimming/fishing pond next to the Cherokee National Forest. The cabin will accommodate 2-4 guests comfortably, it provides a full-size bed in the loft, sitting area with sleeping sofa, a sleeping loft or storage area, full bath with stand up shower, kitchen with sink, mini fridge, stove top and lots of storage. There is also a small table with seating for 2.
The cabin is pet-friendly but we recommend not to bring large dogs(Pet fee is $35.00 per stay and needs to be paid in CASH upon arrival). The cabin is equipped with heat and AC, towels, linens and kitchen necessities. Tiny Fox surroundings are secluded with access to hiking trails, a pond, a wood-fired sauna and Wooden Soaking tub available. The sauna and Soaking tub is an additional charge($20 Sauna for 3 hr session/ $20 Tub for 1 hr session payable in cash), also available are Massages-all by appointment only. With a 4 wheel drive, you can park right at the cabin or with a regular vehicle parking is approximately 600 ft away. Your neighbors at Tiny Owl are 500 ft away but you still enjoying your full privacy. The cabin provides fire pit with grill, picnic table, charcoal grill.
