Bayou Vermilion Flooding, Lafayette, Louisiana, River at Second Highest Level in History August 2016
The Bayou Vermilion rose to its highest level since 1940 after about 2 feet of rain hit Louisiana in a matter of days. On August 13, 2016, Linus Wilson tours the River Ranch neighborhood in Lafayette, Louisiana, and looks at the impact of the flooding from the Camellia Avenue bridge over the Bayou Vermilion. The Vermilion River flooded the restaurant Ruffino's on the River's parking lot. Several 25 foot lights were nearly submerged on the riverfront path. The underpass for Camellia Boulevard was underwater next to the City Club at River Ranch. Homes on the opposite bank appeared to be flooded or near to flooding.
146,000 homes in Louisiana were damaged by the no name storm that dumped over two feet of rain in some areas on August 11-12, 2016. Thousands of cars were destroyed, and over a dozen people lost their lives.
