Dennery is both a quarter and a town on the east coast of the island nation of Saint Lucia. The main economic activities are fishing, and the cultivation of lima beans, bananas, and other tropical fruit. The population of the quarter was estimated at 12,876 in 2002. Much of Dennery is in Mabouya Valley which is made up of Derniere Riviere, Au Leon, Despinoze, Gadette, Grand Riviere, Grand Ravine, La Ressource, Richfond and other surrounding areas; and Frigate Island Nature Reserve is offshore a few kilometers to the south of the town. Pigeon Island is a 44-acre islet located in Gros Islet in the northern region of Saint Lucia. Once isolated from the country in the Caribbean Sea, the island was artificially joined to the western coast of mainland in 1972 by a man-made causeway built from dirt excavated to form the Rodney Bay Marina. Composed of two peaks the island is a historic site with numerous forts such as an 18th-century British fort and Fort Rodney both used by the British to spy on French Ships from neighbouring Martinique. In 1979 it was named a national park and again in 1992 it became a national landmark under the control of the Saint Lucia National Trust . Today, Pigeon Island is the home and major venue of the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival.

Castries, the island's capital, is a busy hub of island commerce and culture. An active cruise-ship port, visitors can invest a few hours at one f two duty-free shopping pavilions along the waterfront. Artists showcase paintings and sculptures in several galleries. Just a few steps from the harbor is the market, where vendors have gathered for more than 100 years to sell a bounty of fresh produce alongside fishermen hawking king mackerel, mahi-mahi and wahoo.
