Mājuli or Majoli (pron: ˈmʌʤʊlɪ) (Assamese: মাজুলী, Assamese pronunciation: [mazuli]) is the biggest river island in the world in the Brahmaputra River, Assam, India and also 1st island district of the country. The island had a total area of 1,250 square kilometres (483 sq mi) at the beginning of the 20th century, but having lost significantly to erosion it had an area of only 352 square kilometres (136 sq mi) in 2014.Majuli has shrunk as the river surrounding it has grown. However it is recognised by Guinness Book of World Records as World's Largest River Island.
The island is formed by the Brahmaputra river in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, joined by the Subansiri River in the north. Mājuli island is accessible by ferries from the city of Jorhat. The island is about 300-400 kim east from the state's largest city —Guwahati. It was formed due to course changes by the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries, mainly the Lohit. Mājuli is the abode of the Assamese neo-Vaisnavite culture
With a total area of 1250 sq. km, Majuli is the world's largest river island and it attracts tourists from all over the world. Among one of the most surreal places in India, Majuli is also a strong contender for a place in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Mostly inhabited by Tribals, the culture of Majuli is unique and quite interesting and is one of the key reasons why people love this place so much. It is also called the cultural capital of Assam. The festivals celebrated here are all joyous and vibrant. The main festival in the town of Majuli is called Raas and witnessing it is an interesting spectacle.
Majuli is a lush green environment-friendly, pristine and pollution free fresh water island in the river Brahmaputra, just 20 km from the Jorhat city.

Parasuram Kund –a fascinating destination in Arunachal Pradesh where nature meets mythology
Located In midst the tranquility of nature in Kamlang Reserve Forest in Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh Parasuram Kunda, a pilgrimage centre, is also famous as a tourist spot. Crystal clear waters of Lohit River rolls over the rocky river-bed and plays with pebbles and stone balls while the trees dance in lush green hills on both sides in rhythm making it a fascinating spot for nature lovers as well.
Mythology says that sage Parasuram beheaded his mother with his axe to follow the order of his father. The fallout of the heinous act was terrible, as the axe got stucked on his hand after the matricide. He visited several holy places, but he could not remove the axe from his hand. Finally he reached Mahendragiri mountain, where he opened a channel of water from a ‘Kund’ (Natural reservoir of rainwater) to let the water flow and took a dip in the water that flowed. The axe got removed from his hand. Since then the kund came to be known as Parasuram Kund.
Thousands of pilgrims and nature lovers from all over the world visit Parasuram Kund during winter. A grand fair is organized during Makar Sankranti celebrations in mid-January.
One has to cross the Dirak gate at the border point of Namsai district in Arunachal Predesh and Tinsikia district in Assam to visit Parasuram Kund. Visitors are required to obtain the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit. For the convenience of pigrims and other tourists there is provision for issuing ILP at this gate.
However, series bandh and blockades in neighboring districts Assam and Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh over turbulent political situation, number of tourists visiting Parasuram Kund has declined this year to a great extent. This has created a negative impact on the small businessmen living there. Most of them are dependant on these tourists for the whole year.
