================================
Corcovado National Park is the main attraction. There are 3 primary ranger stations which serves as the entry point into this park. Tour guides are highly recommended. Dry Season is a subjective term. Be prepared to get your shoes soaked and hike through ankle deep mud.
As of 2014 all visitors to Corcovado National Park are bound to be accompanied by an official guide
NOTE: You can only access San Pedrillo Ranger Staion on Foot from Drake Bay. There is a trail to Sirena but it's almost 30 km on the beach, with 2 big river crossings and NO shade. Your Lodge will take with a Boat to Sirena.
San Pedrillo: Closest entry from Drake Bay. It is accessible by either a 4 hour hike or 1 hour boat ride from Drake Bay. Boats can be arranged with your hotel. The hike comprises of beach and mountain hikes. You will also walk past various eco-resorts. There is a beautiful waterfall with a great swimming hole near this station. Ask the ranger for directions or guide to take you there.
Sirena: 2.5 boat ride or 8-10 mile hike. Please be warned hike from Drake Bay to Sirena ranger station is considered extremely strenuous and difficult. The stretch between San Pedrillo and Sirena is mostly beaches with almost no shade. You can camp at the Sirena Station which has showers and wide decks to sleep to keep you out of the rain. NOTE: Ask Sirena Station for food when you apply for a permit. They can arrange a light meal for you for a nominal fee. Very beautiful hikes around the area and highly recommended.
La Leona: Most Southern ranger station.
Los Patos: Only accessible by 2 hour car ride from Drake Bay. If you are hiking this to the beach, it is almost all decline and will take up to 7-8 hours to the beach. Better approached from Puerto Jimenez or Carate, not Drake Bay unless by plane.
There is also the Cano Island Biological Reserve. The scuba diving can be cloudy but the snorkling is excellent. It is about 1.5 - 2 hour boat ride from Drake Bay.
The little town is off the grid and very quiet, but walking around can make for an interesting afternoon.
AGUJITAS (Main Town Drake Bay): You can do the poisonous Dart Frog tour with Martin.
LOS PLANES: The little town of Los Planes is around 5km from Agujitas. It's a rainforest town with a lot of jungle hikes and a perfect spot to horseback. Check out Naguala Waterfall, refresh yourself in the natural pools and fish some tilapia. They also offer Restaurant Service. Oro Verde, is Alfredo's Place, a Rainforest Hermit who lives in the middle of the Jungle and has the biggest collection of 70' rock music in the area! Tesoro Verde has a own private 12 Hectares Reserve.
ALONG THE COAST: If you keep walking along the coast to the direction of San Pedrillo Ranger Station you will pass many secluded beaches where the rainforest meets the ocean. Coatis, Anteaters and Monkeys are often seen. At Rio Claro River mouth, lives Clavito who rents out kayaks to paddle up river. The next beach is called San Josecito and is a perfect place to Snorkel as there is a rock formation which forms a calm bay. There is a coral reef so bring your mask!

Drake Bay: Costa Rica's Pacific Retreat
In the most populated parts of Costa Rica, especially the inland Central Valley region, the roads are paved and reasonably well-maintained. It’s easy to get around from place to place. Although, the country is mountainous and roads, aside from major highways, are narrow and winding, so it does take you quite a bit longer than you might think to cover a relatively short distance.
But in off-the-beaten path spots and lightly populated rural areas, whether you’re in the mountains or on the coast, away from tourist centers, it’s a different story, and access can be difficult. Dirt and gravel roads in various states of repair could be a major part of your route, and a four-wheel drive vehicle a necessity.
In some locations it’s easier to seek an alternative form of transportation. Regional airlines with small planes have tiny airports throughout Costa Rica. And at the beaches you also find water taxis and ferries.

This is our first trip review. We would enjoy your suggestions and will do our best to answer any questions.
This was our third trip to the Osa Peninsula, which is one of our favourite places in the world (for a list of our favourite places, visit our blog jdwingingit.wordpress.com.). It has amazing wildlife, great accommodation and is still off the beaten track in a country with a lot of tourism. In this viseo we’ll show you how we got there, some of the things you can see and do, as well as share some images of our favourite place to stay.

Costa Rica: Punta Leona, Hotel & Club Punta Leona
Punta Leona, Costa Rica
Punta Leona Hotel & Club
Punta Leona is located on the Pan American Highway on the west coast of Costa Rica. Traveling to Punta Leona is relatively easy from San Jose only being around two hours from the capital and there is plenty to see and do on the way.
The Tarcoles River is home to some of the largest crocodiles in all of the Americas. These crocs can be seen bathing in the sun on the banks just below the bridge. Trust me, this is not a bridge that you want to fall off of.
Reaching up to 15 feet in length, many of these crocs have become accustomed to people throwing food off of the bridge for the crocodiles to fight over to eat. If a person would fall the crocs wouldn't even hesitate, you would be their next meal on probably be on national news.
This arial view allows the spectators to be able to see the complete length of these massive prehistoric creatures in the water, something that is difficult to see by land.
Punta Leona Hotel & Club is just a few short miles from the bridge where this place at times appears like a theme park. Punta Leona is more than just a hotel, here people can rent out condos, buy houses, camp in some areas or stay in the hotel where the rooms are bungalow style surrounded by jungle.
This club has two beaches, restaurants, bars, a supermarket, pools, tennis courts, a basketball court and of course a soccer field. Punta Leona can feel like a small town at times while also having their own church, canopy tour and their own butterfly garden.
Playa blanca is the classical white sand, clear water beach that is tucked away between two cliffs. This isolated beach is a slice of heaven containing palm trees that reach out to the ocean and offering sunsets theat glisten off of the clear ocean water making it difficult to tell where the ocean ends and the sky begins.
Playa (....) is a great place where the locals come to cook out on the beach, listen to music to relax and fish. This beach is a great place to get to know the locals and learn some interesting facts about the Costa Rican lifestyle.
While enjoying your meal at the local restaurant, it is common to see a family of 20 some Pizotes, which appear like a blend between an anteater and your American style raccoon.
Throughout the grounds White Faced Monkeys can be heard and seen in the trees above. These marvelous animals are a joy to watch swinging from branch to branch in the trees just above your own bungalow.
Many different types of birds, butterflies, parrots and toucans can be seen soaring in the sky and perched in the trees above making it a great place for bird watchers and photographers to come and visit.
So what is Punta Leona Hotel & Club? It is a variety of places to stay ranging from bungalows to condos while offering fun activities, beautiful beaches, great canopy tours and exotic wildlife.
