25 Best Places to Visit in the USA - Travel Video
Comprised of 50 states, the USA occupies an area that’s only just marginally smaller than Europe. It’s in this vast country that you will find an unbelievably diverse array of natural landscapes, cityscapes, people and cultures. From the tropical islands of Hawaii to the desert landscape of the Grand Canyon, as well as the multicultural cities such as Chicago and New York City, you’ll never be stuck for destinations to discover. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in the USA:
Lake Tahoe Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia (4K)
Filled with over 39 trillion gallons of pure Sierra snowmelt and pushed a mile into the Californian and Nevada skies, Lake Tahoe is the USA’s largest alpine lake and one of the country’s oldest, year-round vacation playgrounds.
Lake Tahoe has forever drawn travellers to its shores, from the Native Americans who call this place Big Water, to the trappers, timber cutters and pioneers who followed.
When you’re ready for a little alpine magic, take the four-hour drive from San Francisco to the sunlit shores of Kings Beach. Set on Tahoe’s northern end, this beach was named after local card shark, Joe King, who used his winnings to develop some of the lake’s earliest lodgings. On the lake’s southern shore, is Pope Beach, where you’ll find another Tahoe institution, Camp Richardson.
From Pope Beach follow the bike path to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. An open-air classroom for the entire family, the center features fabulous interpretative walks such as the Rainbow Trail.
Nearby, at DL Bliss State Park, follow the spectacular Rubicon Trail into neighboring Emerald Bay State Park. This park is home to the Eagle Falls Trail, a moderate two-mile hike that takes in some of the Sierra high country’s finest views.
When the ponderosa pines bend with the season’s first snow, Tahoe transforms into the nation’s favorite winter playground. Whether you’re looking for snow-capped peaks or crystal clear coves, places to bond with loved ones or pockets of pure solitude, The Lake in the Sky has it all.
The Lighthouses of Door County WI : Lake Michigan Road Trip
If you spend any amount of time traveling around the Great Lakes, you'll quickly realize the importance they once (and still do) served as a shipping and transportation hub of the central part of the United States. In the mid-late 1860's a series of lighthouses started popping up on the shores of Lake Michigan.
During a recent trip around Lake Michigan, the 50 Campfires team decided to stop by and check out these historic light houses that are sprinkled across the Door County landscape. There's definitely something mysterious - yet intriguing about these beacons of light that help ships safely pass the rugged shores of this great lake.
Thanks to the Door County Maritime Museum for the primer! If you're in Sturgeon Bay, be sure to stop by and check out their exhibit:

After 1969, the Coast Guard removed lighting equipment and replaced them with a single direction light on the beach
In 2015 the ranges lights were updated with LED lights and brought back online
------
Cana Island Lighthouse

First lit in 1870
The light was originally fueled by lard

How not to visit MAINE: Portland, Bar Harbor, and not enough time - Traveling Robert
Lessons learned about how not to visit a large state like Maine. First we didn't allocate nearly enough time. Second, it was foggy when we went to see the first sunrise in the USA. Third, campground screwed up our reservation. At that point I gave up and decided to go back some other time. Lobster breakfast in Bar Harbor was great.
